How to avoid being a murderer :D

Hi all, this is my first post, and my first Day of owning E:D. I have been thoroughly enjoying the experience thus far, and look forward to taking part in the beta proper :)

But I have run into a problem: I was heading toward a nav beacon and suddenly i got dropped by an inderdiction, and was under attack. Thinking it was just an NPC pirate, I fired on him and eventually destroyed his ship, only to find myself slapped with a bounty for "the murder of Taric"! But i was only defending my own ship!!

How do I perhaps avoid these situations in future? I don't mind not destroying people's ships, but I had the enemy's hull down to about 5% and still he wouldn't drop it. What do I do?

It's simple: you need to get shot upon first.
It will change in the future but currently he needs to draw first blood for you not to get a bounty on your head.

Interdiction isn't a crime yet, and he wasn't previously wanted, so despite the fact he pulled you out of warp, you hit him first and were the aggressor. Pretty sure this will be fixed.

At the moment, the only way to engage an interdictor, who isn't already wanted, is to let him shoot, and hit, first!

how to avoid being a murderer? do NOT murder anyone, simple as that ;) let them run away or if they are not in the mood you run away ;)

Thanks for the info guys, he must've missed me, because he definitely fired first. I'll make sure to let em hit my shields next time :D

Which leads me to my next question: How do you pull people out supercruise like that?

EDIT: Would like to add; thanks for your quick and friendly responses! It feels almost weird to be nicely received by an online community :) Maybe i've been playing too much League of Legends ^^

yea, this forum is generally a breath of fresh air in the welcoming department :)

player interdiction has yet to be implemented, we are waiting patiently to see how they do it, brain storming out own idea's for how it could work while we do.

i think if you had the target ship locked to your reticle for X amount of time, you can charge a pulse that drops them. Then you could buy countermeasures from starports to make it harder :)

you can't now, but you will be able, there will be a module that will allow you to do just that.

when it will be implemented? maybe in SB2, maybe in SB3 :)

Welcome Commander,

As Calico Jack pointed out, you need to be hit first before you can retaliate. The NPC's often intentionally miss so that you hit them first, thereby gaining a 'Wanted' status and giving them the freedom to kill you and claim your bounty.

That's the really subtle but important difference. Just to be clear, it's not about who *fires* first, it's about who gets the first *hit*. You have to wait until the other ship actually hits your shields before you can legally retaliate.
