Hardware & Technical Monitors for ED

Sorry for the late bump and for my English.
This monitor looks really interesting. But it is very large and is one of the few non-curved monitors on the market of this size. Do you think that this aspect of the product is a minus? And in general, what is your opinion about curved gaming monitors?

If you are sitting at precisely the correct position, you'll get more uniform picture quality and somewhat less distortion when the FOV of the scene exceeds that which the display itself fills. However, I wouldn't go out of my way to get a display with a curve over a flat one, except for the extreme ultrawide aspect ratios. IMO, it's pointless at 16:9, nice to have at 21:9, and extremely useful at 32:9. All that assumes the correct degree of curve for the task and distance you'll be sitting from the display. For more general use, or when more than one person will be watching the display at the same time, I'd avoid curved displays...they are silly for most TVs, for example.

Thank you for your reply. Very useful informations. I hope someday to meet you in the dark because your CMDR is my favorite character in the game.

@Morbad. Did you buy that lg monitor? If so, how good is it?

Haven't gotten around to upgrading my current display yet; other priorities and all.

Still might grab one next time it goes on sale, or may just wait for a good OLED panel of similar size.

Finally I bought this LG monitor. it's my first high-frequency monitor and I appreciate the greater fluidity of the images compared to my previous 60hz IPS for office work. For ED it seems to me very valid for the dark and plausible blacks and even the colors seem right. It works less well for other games, where the color quality of IPS is lacking a bit.
I have questions to ask you all though. In the graphic options there is the "refresh rate" item. What does it mean? Because the game goes up to 144hz even leaving the default 59.xx. And selecting 144.00 does not seem to change anything.
I have deselected Vsync because I can use Gsync. I was right? Yet the game has some slight problem of stuttering / tearing, I do not know, I'm not an expert.

I attach a video where the problem can be noted.
My system is a legacy i5 4670 with a GTX 1080.

What are you using to move around like that? Is it head tracking? Or mouse?

The setup looks correct, make sure that your NVidia 3D manager settings (right click on an empty display) have the G Sync setup as full screen and the monitor selected, make sure that you don't have any setting overriding in the program section overriding you game settings. Check the monitor for any G Sync settings as well.

Thank you for the reply. It is the freelook mouse. I think I have a problem. Or two. And I think I need help.
These are the screens of the nvidia panel you mentioned.

The monitor seems not connected. I tried to install the drivers downloaded from lg.com. The dialog window has said that the installation has been completed.
In this window everything seems ok. (It's written in Italian: Display 1 connected to Nvidia GTX 1080)

But if I check this window

the monitor still appears to be a generic one. Furthermore, the video card is not recognized as MSI. The performance of the card, which is about a year old, has always been optimal in any case.

What can I do? Is gsync activated correctly?

Sorry for my English. I hope it's understandable. And for the long post also.

In your third image, go to the list all modes button Just above the OK button) and then select the correct monitor resolution and the 144hz refresh rate. Mine wasn't set this way so I don't know if this will help, but try it.

Additional settings to check in the NVidia control panel, cheek to see both the Global and Program settings tabs are showing G Sync under monitor technology

Nice. Previously I had 60hz in the desktop, now I have always 144hz thanks to the correct selection. Monitor technology is G sync in both tabs. Still a bit of tearing. A dude on youtube is saying that one should set V sync in this item

and disable it in the game. But it seems odd to me. Why should I have V sync (even if only in the general settings) and G sync both enabled?

Anyway, thank you very much for the support, much appreciated :)

Neat.

But that's a dual panel display.
Inow they simply took the panels from two 2560×1440 screens and glued them together.

Depending on unit and age etc etc.
I guarantee a lot of those screens will have a noticeable misalignment directly down the middle right out of the factory and it would only get worse from there.
Not something I would consider acceptable from an $1700 monitor.

I'm not sure why you would get tearing... I never do. Unless there is something that needs to be enabled in the monitor itself or the cable you're using isn't good for what you're doing. To get G Sync to work you need a Display port 1.2 cable, don't use the HDMI as it won't work with G Sync. You might want to try another Display port cable. The monitor has a very good review over at TFT central http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lg_32gk850g.htm

I don't know, Dell usually has very good monitors and quality control, and my experience with their support has been better than average.

Thank you for the link, interesting reading. I am using already DP with the cable supplied with the monitor itself. PrtScreen doesn't print the monitor OSD but I can read there "G sync ON". Don't know what to do now. I have also tried to lower FPS to 120, as reccomended by tftcentral but nothing has changed. Perhaps I will go to some more specific forum, better if in my native language :D. Again thank you for the support.
