Game DVR background recording

Heya,

since the nVidia background recording isn't working reliably any more for me, since I upgraded to Windows 10 (sometime it kicks in, but most of the time it doesn't), I decided to use Windows Game DVR instead, since that's part of the OS anyway...

Only problem... the background recording can be set to record the last 10 minutes max, which is a bit low for my liking... I would be fine with 15-20 mins. Is there any way to increase this value by editing a registry value directly or something?

Thanks in advance

On Xbox the max is also limited to 10 minutes on the internal drive, but with an external USB 3.0 drive it's an hour. Maybe the same limitation on Win10?

Thanks for the tipps... will keep them in mind, in case I don't find another solution. The thing is, I prefer installing as little third-party-software as possible, especially when the OS has the functionality I need built-in.

Game DVR is doing (almost) exactly what I want and very easy to use, with the only exception that the maximum length for background recording can't be set to more than 10 minutes. I have no idea why they implemented such a ridiculous limitation, but that's Microsoft I guess :/

Interesting... Sounds completely ridiculous but maybe I will try moving the recording-folder to a USB stick when I'm back home, just to find out if MS coders are really THAT braindead.

Try turning on the Experimental Features in GeForce Experience. This solved the issue for me.

You're on PC I'm assuming since you are using Win 10. Just get Streamlabs OBS. You can record to your hearts content then. Easy to use and setup and away you go.

Tried that, but didn't work for me. The Geforce Experience Ingame Overlay and Shadowplay work only once per reboot. After I exit the game, there's no way to open it again, not even directly out of GFE, without rebooting.

Additional Info: I found the registry key, where the maximum recording length for DVR is stored (in seconds). Setting it to a higher value manually has no effect, though.

Guess I have to try one of the third-party alternatives, then... is there a good open source tool for this?

OBS or the Streamlabs OBS. Both excellent and very easy to use. All my vids on my YT are recorded with OBS.

Didn't realize it was open source... but it is, indeed... well, if Microsoft says "10 minutes ought to be enough for anybody", I will give OBS a try, then. Thanks.

Yup totally open mate. And screw the 10 min thing. I record hours of hours of stuff that I cut down to bite sized chunks later.
