I'm planning on collecting some questions, hopefully to ask Dav. Post away and I'll try and get a consolidated list.

  • States
  • Is "happiness" calculated from existing state buckets or is a new state? -A a combination of existing bucket states - which are now on sliders
  • Is the one active state (or two if investment is involved) rule now removed? Yes - both within and between systems
  • Will players now have the ability to impact security states and to what degree or does this mean states such as civil unrest and lockdown are now outside of a players control?
Will there still be influence driven states and bucket driven states
  • If blocking states are removed are there plans to offer an alterative time-effective defence against wholesale murder to a faction-wide election state?
  • Ditto to using out of system wars to defend against trade/mission bots
Will there be a special BGS state for when thargoids attack a system?

    Influence
  • Will the transactional nature of the BGS be maintained - Appears so
  • Are there any plans to downgrade the ease of generating negative affects by murder to the same approximate time/effort commitment as bounty hunting or handing in combat bonds. Its currently much more time efficient to farm system authority than fight in a war zone if challenging for a system.

    Information
  • Where will pending states be displayed for the faction and system/Will the 'faction status summary'/status tab provide information on ALL ongoing conflicts across the faction, or only the local ones? Squadrons will shos all states in all systems... pending now less relevant since its a slider
  • Will the new state display data also included in the Commanders Log?
  • Are there any sagnificant changes to the way file with player journal will look and work in 3.3?

    Strategy and intent
  • Does the dev team still see it as a background simulation and are continuing to develop it as such, or do they intend on catering to the larger vocal player groups who want it to become a galactic conquest simulation?
  • Why have BGS changes not been the subject of a focussed feedback - there are a lot of players/groups with considerable emotional and time investment into the BGS
  • Is FD still committed to the equivalence of the multi-mode system for the BGS? There have been some very vocal proponents of "Open Only BGS" on the forums. Can you confirm that that is not in the planning and the BGS will remain for all CMDRs, regardless of what mode they play in? Nor any move to making Open count for more, for instance?
  • The BGS community is filled with active groups and few are clamoring for major changes. We had a focused feedback for powerplay but not the BGS, and the community nearly universally agrees that powerplay is desperately in need of attention. Why has Frontier decided to prioritize BGS changes over powerplay changes?

Thanks for collating questions Jane. My question is around the nature and direction of the BgS:

Does the dev team still see it as a background simulation and are continuing to develop it as such, or do they intend on catering to the larger vocal player groups who want it to become a galactic conquest simulation?

will there be a faction summary screen, allowing you to see all the systems, statuses, stations owned and influence levels on a single screen for a faction... if so can you show on stream pls

what information will you be able to see about squadron members, will you be able to see numbers (stats) on missions, the amount of INF generated and kills in both bounties and combat bonds

And we did see some of it, even if not explicitly meant to. Thanks for the thread, I'm really curious, but the questions I have so far are already in here.

I'm particularly interested as to why we didn't get some focused feedback on this, maybe related to how quickly the exploration thread discussion devolved.
Keeping an eye on this thread to see if I can think of anything.

If indeed we're moving from faction states to system states, will this mean that the effort to eliminate botting from the game will be accelerated and further prioritized, given that in the current situation, botting will only lead to a loss once a week/conflict cycle, but would be absolutely devastating in a situation with system states where multiple conflicts can happen at the same time, and would lead to large factions being dismantled in really short time frames?

Is FD still committed to the equivalence of the multi-mode system for the BGS? There have been some very vocal proponents of "Open Only BGS" on the forums. Is "Civil Liberty" a new state or just a bucket representation?

civil liberty was listed under 'security' along with civil unrest which suggests that certain states will be re-purposed to security states.

it will be interesting to see if lockdown (yes, i'm making an assumption lockdown will now be a security state) and civil unrest security states can exist alongside a boom or bust.

so if i had to extract a question from this information it would be whether players will now have the ability to impact security states and to what degree or does this mean states such as civil unrest and lockdown are now outside of a players control?

BGS should be Influence = Open only, Reputation = All Modes. :p

How will new Exploration and Mining now tie in with BGS? Due to the current hotly debated 'efficiency/infinite probes' issue, is that efficiency set to be relevant to BGS effect as well?

Why would it be any different to now?

The efficiency of scanning with the probes. Most people seem to consider the bonus as credit based only - I wonder if this bonus might affect other game areas too. We've not seen the full mining changes yet and that too may have efficiency aspects to it. You never know!
As I understand it at the moment, each system scanned gives a + with a low threshold to cross and no extra + for scanning extra bodies - only credits and naming.
Mining acts much the same way as a trade input with BGS (got to admit, I don't use it much due to more potent and interesting BGS actions being available).
