How Elite could rule the galaxy

Make it time limited and open all the valves! You need to seen the full power of the Universe and not just a dress window. I would love to "Pump" more money into ED but they just won't let me :D

I dont care what FD do to attract players to fund further expansions for everyone. If the game becomes massive and is fully funded everyone benifits.

Do I care that I paid money from the outset of kickstarter? No not at all. That was my choice and I took that step myself. I got the game a bit cheaper I get all major future expansions included, I get a little sticker saying I am brilliant for backing ED. I have even had the chance to see and play the game and watch it develop.

All I want now is a brilliant game that has regular updates and features . I want planetary landings , I want ship boarding. Id like a personal storyline with big ship battles , I would like huge multiplayer ships I can walk about with my mates.

To get all this we need players to buy the game . If FD decide to offer the game free for a time period or a cut down 50 -100 systems or indeed a free cobra and 5000 credits I honestly couldnt give a damn as long as it gets players in and playing .

Bring it on.

Interesting idea. I would agree but not straight away, let the game sell for a while, then put it on steam but give 4 systems and a ship with limited upgrade potential.

might be able to negatively affect the persistent galaxy. Especially if there are a large number of like-minded individuals. I think a group of people might get great pleasure in being able to download a demo and go 'annoy' or 'break' the game for paying players.
Good point and agree. I recall some MMO's that were abused by people in the past on temp accounts.

I just think 50 systems is enough for them never to need to upgrade if they don't want to and I want this game to stick around for a long while. :)

"We're entering a new golden-age of space sims"

"You don't have to choose between Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen; play both!"

I just paraphrased two mantras which do the rounds on various forums and comments sections that seek to quell debate and comparison.
The problem is that debate and comparison are very valid for the simple reason that not everybody has the time or money to play all of the wonderful new space sims that are currently in development.

Frontier have no doubt burnt through the Kickstarter funds and so they'll be looking to get Elite Dangerous in to the hands of as many players as possible. Luckily for them they should have their final release pretty soon and should reap the rewards of getting to market early.

There's been a lot of dismay by people outside of the ED community about the cost of getting in to beta. Many feel it wrong to have to pay to test a game and I understand their perspective. But Frontier's hands were tied unless they wanted to annoy loyal backers, which I think was the right decision in the circumstances.
But imagine if they had released a free beta? The uptake would have undoubtedly been massive and they would have captured a massive share of the market before Chris Roberts had finally put his trousers on.

My suggestion, based on the above:

When gamma goes live, put out a free to play version that limits players to the 50+ systems we currently have in beta. If possible, make it full featured (as far as gamma goes) and suck people in to the game. Then, once people have decided they like the game they can pay to upgrade and the galaxy becomes their playground!

What do people think?

8 systems is more thane nought to TRY. 50 systems is like almost a full game especially with all the features.

Sure, maybe 50 systems would be too much.

But then again, surely access to the Imperial ships and systems would be worth the money alone! ;)

I remember in good old days when you play demo after you are done they would show you nice slide show with what else you can do in a new game. I'd say actually give them ALL the features in demo but only access to very basic items that you can own. Like sidewinder and hauler, that's it. But then make sure they see all the other ship in shipyards and some mechanics that advertise additional stuff in full version.in other words "sell" your demo.

Best demo I have played recently was the Football Manager demo on Stem where you were allowed to play for six months of the full game - a full season or the World Cup qualifiers. Then when you finished the demo and it timed out you could continue your game after buying the full version. What a superb demo and superb marketing - I bought the game after the demo and have played it now for around 100 hours. And I am not even all that keen on football!

So yeah definitely a time limited version of the full game would make a superb demo. They should definitely do that.

BUT also:- what about releasing the single missions as a free to play set on Steam? That would get massive interest for the game itself - all you would have to do is put in a link to the game into the single missions menu screen. Job done! I will have my reward in hundred pound bills please Mr Braben thank you sir.

I was showing someone the game a couple days ago . I let him have a go in the combat senarios. He is now ordering the game when he gets back from holiday.
