Request for a Station named after CMDR Sharkh. May he rest in peace144ttt

I didn't know CMDR Sharkh, but he passed recently:
https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/9purxd/farewell_cmdr_sharkh/

Someone mentioned that FD should name a station after him. I don't know if it has already been suggested, I couldn't find a post.

So FDev, Please consider naming a station after our fellow Commander.

CMDR Sharkh, may you find your place in the stars. o7

Apologies for the garbage in the title.

I'm the OP over on the reddit thread there, this is a lovely idea and I -very- strongly support it. It would have meant the world to him.

My bird died last night from eating too much nuts, his name was Skippy.

We should have a station named after him.

Skippy Port.

Look while it's a sad story, we shouldn't erect stations after every dead dude. Memorials should be reserved for genuine achievements.

I Second this proposal. There is infinite space to dedicate to players memories, the ammount of colonised stars is nothing, an atom in the proverbial sea. If we dedicated every players name we'd still have 400 billion left. We all make the game unique, our actions and reactions make memories. Friends are made playing the game. I second Jibberish's request.

A few votes and some positive comments couldn't hurt here. Ya know, to counter the negative acidity that some people can't help but spew...

If you enjoy the game, and like people, this could be an important community objective, idiots and not included, PLEASE! We don't need your sarcasm. Go to your parent's funeral and laugh. Leave serious Players alone.

I don't know if you could be more insensitive and flat out rude if you tried.
That said, I agree with the sentiment.

I think theres enough space to slip his name in somewhere.Be a nice gesture from FD to a player thats now passed.

In no way is this an appropriate thing to say when someone is trying to honor a friend that’s passed. Kindness is free and shouldn’t be difficult.

I would like to nominate my home port of Rand City in v491 Persei for the renaming. It’s a great system and port. o7 CMDR Sharkh.

There are enough stations, planets and other things that could be potentially named and this is really not much of an effort for Frontier either, I really don't see why one would see this as a problem.
I'd even like to see an entry in the Codex that contains all the memorials that made it into the game, regardless if they were actual players, relatives, friends or pets.

renaming stations after dead cmdr's won't cause any problems and will break up the monotony of working out station names etc

Brutality aside, Sole Hunter is right.

Technically speaking, half the ED playerbase could get hit by a bus tomorrow. Very unlikely but within the realm of possibility.

If that happens, what are we gonna' do? Name a station for 5,000 different players?

With respect OP, I've never heard of the deceased.

Tributes should be the reserve of genuine achievement. And I do not mean subscriber count. I'm uncomfortable with Obsidian Orbital.

It should be the reserve of great scientists, thinkers and other people who genuinely changed the world, IRL.

Un1k0rn,

While I understand you position, I disagree with it. There are a great many places in the world that have names that are completely meaningless; Rosebud, TX comes to mind. Trust me, it is not the kind of environment where roses grow naturally.

As to changing the world, or in this instance, galaxy, the player was part of the game, so they did change the galaxy. It might have been stupendous, but they did make contributions.

He's not being a "pitiful excuse for a human being".

He's being realistic. There has to be a line drawn on memorials, otherwise where do the requests end?

I know it's not a nice thing to say, but I have to because it's the truth. What has the deceased done that is so remarkable that it warrants a memorial in something he had no stake in? No, playing the game isn't a stake.

I guess this makes me a pitiful excuse too. That's a term often used to describe the realistic.

By OP's logic, every time a Vauxhall car owner passes, Vauxhall should make a memorial car. See how that's impractical?

Look I am known for being brutal stone cold with my answers and I don't really care how you feel about it.

Fact is just because his friend died doesn't make him any more special than anybody else.

Nobody know that person nor does he deserve anymore than anybody else a giant flat station in his honor.

What has he done for this community beside passing away?

I killed thousands of CMDR's in this game, where is my station to honor my glorious path of destruction?

In-game memorials should be reserved for genuine achievements for players who have impacted the community in a meaningful way.

Not random people asking for station because their bird died.

OP, might I suggest you find a beautiful Star System and, regardless of the actual name/designation, you (and your friends) consider it to be SharkHs' system. That way you, in your own quiet way, are able to honour your friend.

While there are items within the Game that have been named after Players, it is because the Player has done something genuinely memorable (and I do not mean to belittle SharkH here). For example, Obsidian Ant has done a lot to promote the Game, and help other Players to get on well out amongst the Stars. There was a Forum vote (to name a new Station), and Obsidian Orbital came out on top. While I did not make that suggestion, I do approve of it. SharkH may well have been a major part of YOUR game, but (again, without meaning to belittle him) how many other Players have heard of him?
