Hardware & Technical Need a new joystick, opinions please :)

I have it narrowed down to the logitech extreme 3d pro or the thrustmaster t1600m.

Im very familiar with the logitech, having had about 2-3 or them since about 2005, good sticks that function as designed and that can be counted on to have at least 3-4 years of use in them. I have been playing elite on my current one since 2016 and, being at least 4 or so years old, it needs replacing.

The t1600 i am not familiar with. It gets good reviews, but what specifically concerns me is that the on stick throttle looks to have such a narrow throw, that im not sure it will be practical for elite or other flight sims.

Ideally, i would like to hear from someone that has used both sticks, but for those using the t1600, hows the throttle function in elite?

Get T16000M. Forget about throttle. Use it with keyboard. A superior control method for this game ;)

I do use a joystick with keyboard in elite.
My question was about the on stick throttle of the t1600m how it compares to the throttle of the extreme 3d pro and how the two sticks compare generally.
Your post was all noise and no signal, seriously, why even bother?

no idea about the t1600m, but i have an extreme 3d pro and never actually used the throttle, it's kind of flimsy but most of all it's at the base of the joystick, meaning you would need both hands and make do with the side buttons which are ... meh. you're much better off with your other hand on the keyboard.

btw i would gladly give it to you, i have already a backup. we just would need to sort out shipping. pm if interested.
(well, just checked and shipping cost would probably exceed the cost of a new stick :D)

What an attitude. Your question is answered in my post. Just learn to read, not just see letters.

I do use the side buttons with the throttle and with voice attack i never really need to take my hands off the stick.

Thanks for the offer anyway, they are pretty cheap, for the price practically disposable :)

I have used both - they feel completely different to each other and I think it might be personal choice of which one to prefer.

I prefer the Logitech for several reasons - comfort of holding the grip, buttons on the LHS of base only so good for right-handed user, good "throw" on the stick and not too stiff, buttons on the grip easy to use and convenient, good weighty base making it rock-solid on the desk.

The 16000M was returned for a refund - not so comfortable to hold the grip, buttons on both sides of the base making the ones on the right virtually useless, stick feels very stiff, buttons on the stick were not very easy to use, base less stable than the Logitech.

Throttle - the 16000M throttle (which is a slider) was far less precise in use compared to the Logitech whose simple rotating "tap-like" lever was easy to get into precise positions.

I don't use the Logitech very much as I have a CHPro Fighterstick and Throttle HOTAS setup on the main PC and a T-Flight-X on the secondary PC. I do keep the Logitech handy and have a binds setup where I use it in place of the Fighterstick for "going pew-pew" (don't do that much) as the twist stick is useful for that.

I would never use a 16000M again ever.

The magnetic sensors on the T16000.M are infinitely superior to the pots on the Logitech. On the Thrustmaster stick, they're 14-bit, compared to 8 bit (and noisy) potentiometers on the 3D Pro. This might not seem like much, but it gives you much finer control, especially in FA-off - there's a lot more resolution to magnify with a response curve.

Personally, I much prefer the throw of the T16000.M to that of the 3D Pro, but that's a personal preference.

The software for the T16000.M is also very good, as it lets you fully program response curves, buttons and macros to suit your needs.

As for the on-stick throttle, I use it for sensor magnification. It actually has a wider throw than the 3D Pro, but I don't find it very convenient. I actually use throttle hotkeys.

X 52 pro.
It is a chore setting up but it is a joy to use. Especially in a VR environment. I have modified mine with 3 extra buttons on the throttle (an old mouse) and built it in, so you have extra controls. Works flawlessly. My Hotas has been going since 2014, with the advent of Elite. NP.

Cheers Cmdr's

Good through review, thank you.

Thanks for that, thats exactly what i wanted to know about the throttle. Since the 3d pro still works, except for a little noise on the roll axis and a sticky button, i think i will try the thrustmaster.

Just bought the thrustmaster, thanks for the help guys. I will probably buy the throttle as well if i like the stick.

Love to hear how you get on with the t16000. I'm considering the same to replace my 16 year old Saitek 'Cyborg 3D Force'. Enjoyed reading all the comments.

Aps.

Its a great stick. Aiming is very precise with the kind of sensors thrustmaster uses on the t1600, much better than the aim on any logitech 3d pro or my old saitek x45, easily the most precise stick i have ever used. The hat is easy to manipulate with your thumb and no slippage.

Some minor cons, the stick is thicker than the logitech, has fewer buttons on the stick and rather than clicky type buttons, the buttons are like those on a rubber dome keyboard, no click of tactile feedback.

All things considered, this is a better stick than the logitech 3d pro , a considerable improvement over any analog stick, the minor drawbacks forgiveable given its precision.

One thing i should mention, the base of the stick lights up when the stick is moved off center in the pitch or roll axes. Its annoyingly bright in low light conditions, nothing some black electrical tape wont fix :)

So thats my opinion on the stick after about a week of use. The stick was impressive enough that i also decided to get the twcs throttle and after 2 days of use, im really impressed with it. If you are going with the stick, i would recommended the throttle as well.

Just FYI for those that might not know...t16000m is precise because it has the same sensor as the warthog which IMO makes the t16k the best starter stick if you prefer precision over flashy lights or buttons.

Funny you say about flashy lights, because the light on the base of this stick is an absolute nightmare. Abysmal design choice IMO. You WILL be blinded by it playing in a dark room. Thankfully, it will only take a few minutes to open it up and kill it. Which I highly recommend to do if you find it annoying too.
Otherwise, a great device.

Meh... I can't see it in VR.

I chose 3D Pro because I prefer 34 quid to 60 quid. :D

Fair enough! Though I would wager if you do try a t16k you will likely change your mind and never want to touch a 3d pro again. :D

By flashing light I was referencing the x52's mainly, my next stick will likely be from VKB or Virpil!

Probably, but... Cheaper. I do prefer my 3D to the X52 it replaced.

Also gives me an excuse to actually use my overpriced Razer keyboard for thrust.
