Modes Is attacking clean players (not npcs) in Open harassment?

I'm sorry if I sounded pretty much annoying to the other people. My only fault is trying to play Open on Xbox One and having no other experience that Free For All PKing fest:

On Xbox One, there is no "good" piracy roleplay, traders log as soon as they get into contact with people trying to be actually 'nice pirates', and most of the time I got interdicted around CG - I just got murdered without any word by overly-engineered ships that even Cobra Mk III - the best unengineered ship speed/boost - cannot outrun - staring at the Rebuy screen seconds later.

I may sounded wrong when I think about it, but I made that on basis of the almost year-long experience playing on Xbox One and trying Open Mode on every CG since I jumped onto my first Sidey (save for two recent ones due to IRL) - repeated a few times during each CG, different days and hours.

And maybe that's the crux of entire problem when I tried to point out "solution" that wouldn't work on the long run. That's because it is problem of the Xbox community.

You really should use fresh basil in lasagna.

People are calling me names and making veiled insults.
If they kept focus on my points instead, then it would be hypocritical.
But as it stands, I am doing something entirely different and am being subjected to bizarre, off base accusations/insults.

(eg "Own being a bully" )

But you don't care about facts!

So about that lasagna...

*looks at current comments, looks at the quote again, laughs more at the irony*

It is even more ironic that you claim I don't care about facts when I've been stating them and backing them up and you continue to claim "victimhood" in an attempt to ignore them.
You want to cling to part of a statement made by someone working for FDev and ignore everything else said. Continue to do so, but don't claim victimhood and quote Emerson and expect people to take you seriously.

You have accused myself and others of crap and all we have done is shown you where we are not, but again then you come up with "attack", "lash out", etc in order to deflect that people actually countered your argument.

I scanned through... I could have missed it. Where were you called names? Where are these "veiled insults"?

As for the bully... look in the game, I am sure you will find some.

You have nothing to be sorry about

Meet Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku!

dukekahanamoku2.jpg

This 5 time Olympic medalist is also known as "The Father of Modern Surfing".

Between Olympic competitions, and after retiring from the Olympics, Kahanamoku traveled internationally to give swimming exhibitions. It was during this period that he popularized the sport of surfing, previously known only in Hawaii, by incorporating surfing exhibitions into these visits as well. His surfing exhibition at Sydney's Freshwater Beach on December 24, 1914 is widely regarded as a seminal event in the development of surfing in Australia.[13] The board that Kahanamoku built from a piece of pine from a local hardware store is retained by the Freshwater Surf Club. There is a statue of Kahanamoku on the Northern headland of Freshwater Beach, New South Wales.[14] He made surfing popular in mainland America first in 1912 while in Southern California.

So again, we can see that people claim all sorts of things, that have no connection to reality.

Mahalo!

LOL, I quoted one.

All the insulting people are right here, not in open.
I never claimed to be a victim.
You're all over the place!

Re "the soft bigotry of low expectations", no it's not about GWB.
The phrase is apt, that is all.
I've heard it educational circles:

You know the worst thing about [bleeps]? [Bleeps] always want credit for some [bloop] they supposed to do. A [bleep] will brag about some [bloop] a normal man just does. A [bleep] will say some [bloop] like, “I take care of my kids.” You’re supposed to, you dumb [bleeper][bleeper]! What kind of ignorant [bloop] is that? “I ain’t never been to jail!” What do you want, a cookie?! You’re not supposed to go to jail, you low-expectation-having [bleeper][bleeper]!

I know who he is, yet that doesn't make Hawaii the "capital of modern surfing"... now birthplace yes. As for Capital, since it means "a place associated more than any other with a specified activity or product" that is completely different... and as I have stated I will let travel guides, National Geographic, and others decide which is the "capital" and strangely when I do a search I get a list of places in no certain order and none list Hawaii as the capital... so that is you all saying that and using Duke and his achievements to make a claim.

You are the one making claims that you are being insulted and named called and such.. hence you are claiming to be the victim as these things were done to you supposedly. And yet when asked for proof again you give none and instead deflect with a claim that I am "all over the place".

GWB used it in a speech about education, and yet agains there is no "soft bigotry of low expectations" here. You make claims... that is all you have done is make claims and when asked to back it up... you make more of them. And I am not the only person you keep doing this to. So again I will ask... where is this "soft bigotry of low expectations".

Edit: I have no problem saying I am wrong and you are right, but proof is needed for that. That is where the hang up here is.

Right, more obfuscation!

I have been, and used quotes.
It's a pretty minor point.
Feel free to indulge in the hypocrisy.

Yes there is.
It's the expectation that people cannot figure out that being killed in open is a-ok.
It also relates to getting all ones panties in a bunch when it happens.
And as well, it applies to the molly-coddling of people hurling insults to people playing the game as intended.

And yes, you are all over the place.
It's literally Whack-a-fallacy with some of you lot!

"OH noez! THE CALLOUSNESS!!!"
Hahahaha!
You have no idea.
You actually get your rear-end handed to you for putting others in danger.
Often, one of the first things you do when saving someone is slap the fear right out of them!
Saving someone is risky!

You're lucky if you don't just get beaten up.
So yeah, I actually laugh at your whole world-view.
It produces molly-coddled people who are weak in spirit and have no fortitude.

Right, more obfuscation!
Horse manure.. there is no obfuscation, just refusal by you to understand facts and instead want to muddle the waters. Even something as simple as a claim made by you that is not supported by facts. If you find me an actual independent travel guide that makes the claim you are making then I will say you are right. The ONLY travel guides I am finding on google that make the claim that Hawaii is the surfing capital of the world are all strangely of Hawaiian origins... that is not an independent source saying something factual. That is a tourist hook.

Interesting because I requested you provide proof and your next post claims you have, yet again... No quotes were posted just the claim that you have. And then claim "feel free to indulge in the hypocrisy". Another clear deflection.

Nope, again there is no "soft bigotry of low expectations". No one, that I have seen, has said that getting killed in Open is unacceptable and that it can't happen. Some had advised that maybe a notice, and look at the scorn you give that with your "molly-coddled" insult. And what has been said is that behavior beyond normal gameplay is possibly harassment and is unacceptable. The only "panties in a wad", as you put it, behavior is from people who think that hounding someone in Open until they leave for another mode is acceptable. Look at your whole paragraph, it is utterly condescending to those who do not share your "viewpoint". Heck you make claims of people insulting you, again with no proof, but look at your last sentence... oh look blatant an insult. *Looks back at the Emerson quote and laughs at the Irony.*

after reading pages of this thread and feeling it's not going anywhere I will just pop this in there:
1) Block bullies siple as that

2) Overpowered should be total value of your ship etc should not be more than twice of your victims. So blowing up cmdrs in Eravate in a engineered anaconda is a no-no.

3) Harrasment is subjective depending on the game in ED it's continued attacks by a cmdr or group of cmdrs for no reason. After all the same "rule" could be put to space invaders in that game after all its a group of characters that just keep attacking the player ;).

You never ever will get the PvP brigade to agree there has to be a line drawn until there is nobody left in the game and it's a dead argument. For all those advocating PvP I suggest parking your ship's and buying a stock sidey. ASpec said sidewinder then goto a CG in open and see how you feel after getting blown up several times by a overpowered ship, after all this is what your saying everyone else should do so why not try it out for a couple of weeks I'm sure the lesson will be useful :)

I've done something similar to this a while back.
I interdicted several "overpowered" ships at a busy CG in a throwaway Sidewinder to keep them busy, allowing other traders to slip through the net. I didn't care about being blown up myself because my rebuy was so laughably cheap.

It also taught me a lot about interdicting other players, evasion, and high-waking out of trouble.

Not sure if those are the lessons you meant, but they were certainly useful :)

I did something similar, myself.

After a long "debate" about how explaining to players about the importance of having strong shields in Open would be much more effective than blowing them up, I spent a week at a CG in a D-rated Imperial Courier, named "Shield Inspector," pulling over Commanders, stating my intention to test their shields, explaining why strong shields are necessary, and requesting a donation to "The Imperial Shield Inspection Services Retirement Fund."

Highlights of the week include:
  • One friend request
  • Eight tons of CG cargo
  • Two evaded bounty hunters
  • One wanted Vulture (IIRC) combat logging suffering from sudden network failure syndrome

I also concluded that I'm glad I went with the Imperial Agent character concept, as opposed the the Federation Neo-abolitionist character concept, since that one was originally going to be more PvP-piracy oriented, and even at busy CGs there's hardly players around (edit) players I can be instanced with.

That's the problem on Xbox, when you want to find or participate in actual piracy roleplay. It is dead on Xbox. Most of my experience after year in Elite taken from various CG in Open was getting murdered on sight no matter what ship I had, without any demands and stuff. From the other side, when I wanted to be a nice pirate to traders - every single one just ran away (in a way scared by possibility of getting killed players do) or fired away at me even when I obviously didn't want to fire first, having their own experience with such individuals.

This from the guy whose Disneyland trip- and his daughter's, allegedly- was ruined because Sandro was speculating as to open-only Powerplay.

Aww bless ya, shame you didn't read the game information as well as you read my posts isn't it.
Actually, you didn't keep reading did you, as Sandro quite cheered us up a few posts later.

As usual, you're trolling and wrong. And now trolling on 90s level so it seems.

Nah, not trolling. Just carrying on the conversation in the spirit of the OP's question.

At the end of the day, we're all just playing a game. Attacking players is allowed (I daresay encouraged) by the game's rules. If this works for you, cool. If not, play in solo. If you're the sort of person to equate legitimate gameplay mechanics to real-life harassment and abuse, then not only does that rule goes double, but said person is probably due for some unpleasant introspection.

*Looks at what you said, then looks at your "signature", laughs my tail off* Oh and by the way... again, legitimate gameplay is not harassment, but when it goes beyond that it can be. That for some reason seems to be the point you can't wrap your head around

I think Matt and you just draw the line in a different place.

Here's an example: the other day in Fuelum I was chain interdicting a wanted Cutter whom I'd witnessed unlawfully attacking players. I didn't really have a way to kill it and claim its bounty, but as they refused to high wake, I could at least keep them from grabbing anyone else. Probably got about 12-15 interdiction attempts in before I lost them.

They said I was 'being mean.'

I don't know if that was serious or not, but I can see how someone might come to that conclusion. Was it harassment though? Absolutely not, in my view.
