How can I be fined for murdering someone?

Instead of murdering, how about cargo scooping the escape pod and delivering the criminal to the authorities for the bounty.

Its not the murder people have the problem with, its being rudely interrupted from grinding and the subsequent need to regrind the losses why people have a problem being murdered.

Simply no other reason.

Would be funny if you could scoop the escape pod after their ship blew up and sell them as slaves like you could in Frontier. Not sure how that mechanic would work in ED though...

On a more serious note, perhaps the crime should be "attempted murder" instead?

If you could scoop them up, you'd be able to sell them as various kinds of slaves such as pleasure slaves, or alternatively you might let them 'spoil' and sell them as fertilizer commodities or meat commodities, according to this dev post on slavery. It seems unlikely that it'll ever apply to player characters, though. In any case, there's interesting times ahead!

Yes the title is rather shocking. Even if the murders and the explosions are an integral part of ED

:)

I think Ironman is about as close a game mode as we are going to get to actually being killed.. if we turn a blind eye to said character being transferred into the all-group after it happens.

Maybe thats what the all-group is.. The afterlife. :D :p

Well its a choice on whether or not to drop the commander to the normal 'all/all' group, to 'Iron Elite' (Ironman mode really needs a name change imho) the commander is dead and yes he's been chosen to join the afterlife.

That way we can play dead is dead and also gives the slight cushion if you have a commander you become attached to, you can still at least carry on in normal mode if he dies after three years due to a cat jumping on the keyboard at the wrong instance (as an example).

Still Iron mode could do with a bit of a polish, perhaps slightly different badges from a certain point on, maybe more.

Still begs the question, what will happen to the poor Iron mode pilots who get deleted after death? No afterlife for them lol.

Indeed. I'd entirely forgotten that you also needed a cargo bay life support for this otherwise they turned into fertiliser. Now I think about it, I seem to recall a section from the manual that hinted at dead slaves sometimes making it into the animal meat market too, although I never saw this actually happen in game.
