The official game release

I think FD should offer 100 all expenses paid trip to Cambridge for the official release of Elite Dangerous. It's a black tie event. Then they will meet all the people who supported the Elite games with dedicated websites for three decades.

That would be you, Jades, Zat, the Alioth.net guy, and a few others I can't remember the names now. Remember when there used to be an Elite ring? good times.

I agree, but also think Frontier should release the original single-player alpha to the gamma community, on the 30th anniversary, as a way of saying, "Calm down, calm down.

Also, black tie? How about funky knitwear?

Well if I was picked life has been good to me so I could pay for airfare from the USA to the UK and back. But I'm not about picking me. I'm about picking people who will carry on the Elite torch and going forward. I like many others had my time supporting the previous games and I as well as others mentioned did it well. But it is time for a new generation to take over and move on. That is the 100 people who should show up.

OK, give us Elite website supporters for the last 30 years with a unique 14K gold version of the Elite Dangerous pin and we'll be happy! It won't really cost you much but will make a closure to all our efforts over the years to finally recognize and be appreciated by Frontier Developments for our efforts.

It doesn't have to be a 100, that might be too many, a few would do. Only thing, I am not sure how many of those who paid a lot of money to be part of the launch party will be happy that some get an all expenses trip to it.

I paid a lot, not to that level and in my own opinion I'd be happy to meet a group of people who have contributed a lot of time and effort with promoting the game.

StarTux,

I do understand your concerns and how much some Kickstarter fans paid in serious money to be part of the official release of the game. I'm still all for that and they get 1st priority when it comes to any contractual agreements with FD should that have been their motivation. It wasn't in the offerings but when you pay serious money to get an audience they will at least have to listen to your proposal.

But I am also into bringing onboard the best talent to keep Elite going for several more decades. There are excellent programmers out here who could not afford the Kickstarter fees but still worth looking at. It is in the best efforts of FD to take a look at them. FD always says they are hiring. Well maybe they will get a few hits.

i have to ask, in this day and age where code is king and everything is run by computers how good could a programmer be who couldn't afford the Kickstarter fees?

Oh come on. Programming games is like making movies in Hollywood. How much you make is about your reputation, who you know and an excellent resume for games that made the huge profits. If you are a nobody you will be lucky to do $30,000 a year. If you are somebody it could go into the millions. But if FD is smart they will look for nobodys with talent. It will be a lot cheaper!

I lived in Los Angeles for 26 years and know how the game is played with actors, musicians or programmers. It is an evil game and I don't recommend anyone playing it.

fair play but working for someone else is only one way of earning a living, how much did that one lone programmer make from flappy birds for example? if you have the talent and the will to use it making money is not rocket science.

You are talking Flappy Birds which hit. Others have hit as in the Doom 3-D series but they are the exceptions to the rule. How many thousands of programmers never got that break? Most are happy in Corporations at $70,000 a year updating databases for their clients.

Anyway this is getting into an argument and I don't want to go there. Say your last words and something positive about Elite Dangerous! That is why we are here...Well me anyway.

I was also actually agreeing with you from my own personal point of view in the second paragraph :).

If FD did something like this whether or not there'd be outrage could depend on how its delivered.
