Will there be more than 2 New Ships?

Nope don't see it.

Cheiftain has square canopy, Hunter has elongated canopy split in to 6 window parts
Cheiftain has 2 large intakes either side of the canopy, Hunter does not
Cheiftain body is square shaped, Hunter body angled
Chieftain has rear spoilers, Hunter has no spoiler but 2 small external thrusters instead
Chieftain has 2 central thrusters at the back, Hunter has 1 central thruster at the back

I could go on... but as you say everyone has their own eyes. Mine just happen to pick up on glaring details like that :)

That's the thing with concept art, it never quite matches up to the end product. Just check the Beluga concept art on the ED wiki. I understand how badly you want another imperial ship, but IMO that is a lost cause. The hunter became the GU-97 and inspired parts of the Chieftain, that's what my eyes see.

I would more like to see content that would be doable with small ships only; that way we would get many "new" ships. (Ie. Reason to use those)

An amen to that, small ships are slowly being squeezed out of usefulness, either build a few with some necessities into the base model, scanners and limpet controller for eg or merge the rapidly expanding ship modules into one another a bit, 1 ton should be plenty big enough to house all the different types of scanners required, same for limpets, extra shielding (those... bits that stick on the outside of the ship), and so forth.

You could do the same with released ships and their concept art from years earlier...

I reckon it'll be the two ships we already know of, and one they will reveal on the day, so three. The rest of the stream will be about balancing.

had similar thoughts... bit unsure about a third one... or maybe just the 3 diffrent variants of the mamba instant...

The livestream is entitled "The Ships" (although it says "New Ships" on the beta infographic), so maybe there'll be more to this than 2 or 3 new ships. I'm an eternal optimist.

I suppose there might be more than 2 new ships. Or it might be covering 2 new ships plus the changes to Saud Krugers ships and possibly other changes to ships such as the Asp Scout.

Finally, if they give 4 utility slots to the Cobras instead of the 2 we have, i'll kiss the space loach!

Whether it did or didn't inspire parts of other ships and concept art or no, the fact remains The Hunter as is looks pretty far removed from the final versions of both the Chieftain and GU-97 that it couldn't pass as its own ship.

The Hunter concept looks great, so if FDev were to release that as is or similar to fill the glaring and unfair medium ship hole in the Imperial lineup that myself and many others have been complaining about for years already, then myself and I am sure a lot of other people would be very happy.

Let's take a look at how many unique designs we've got for ships in the game, and that will tell us how many ships we have really and help us decide whether the roster really needs bolstering. Personally I think it does...

Small
- Sidewinder
- Eagle+
- Cobra+
- Adder
- Hauler
- Dolphin
- Vulture
- Diamondback+
- Courier
- Viper+

Medium
- Chieftain+
- Asp+
- Federal Dropship+
- Python
- Fer-De-Lance
- Type 6+
- Krait+
- Mamba?

Large
- Corvette
- Cutter
- Anaconda
- Type 9+
- Type 7
- Orca
- Beluga
- Clipper

So that's 10 small, 8 medium and 8 large distinct ship designs.
26 out of 38 ships that we know about right now are unique designs. So that's 12 variants, nearly a third of all our ships.

I think we need some more unique designs to make the variant percentage a lot less than that.

Yes, that ratio of unique:variant is the key metric by which we all judge this game. Not.

Personally, I think every ship could have at one variant to cater for different peoples styles and perferences.

2 new ships currently in the beta and piloted by npc are all new human ships we will get with 95% change. Ships are just assets with some stats attached to them so if we would get more ships they would be in beta and npc would use them. Only thing i see for change to get other than these 2 would be new quardian small, medium or large ships, as currently npc don't use any quardian tech and would be reason we haven't spotted these in the beta yet. Or thargoid ships for players.
