Powerplay CYCLE 179: STATEMENT: Torval Expansions

The matter of the current Torval Expansions has been drawn to my attention and their nature; namely the accusation that these Expansions are 5C. I remind those commenting that a 5C Expansion is an Expansion that is unsanctioned by the Power being Expanded. The Expansions in question and their impacts have been dealt with in detail at the Imperial High Council who have concluded in accordance with my view that under the rules of the game they are a legitimate tactic. Thus, they are not unsanctioned and are most desired, being as they are beneficial to the Empire's greater glory. Therefore, to label them as 5C is at best a misunderstanding of the term; they are Weaponised Expansions against our sworn Federal enemy and an honourable course of action to take under the current rules of engagement.

Um...pledging to a power in order to do things that aren't of benefit to that power is pretty much the definition of 5C. "Imperial High Council" isn't a thing in the game, it's just a lame excuse to justify using Torval's bloated corpse as a weapon to do what your players clearly aren't capable of doing any other way.

But 5C using her to attack fellow imperial powers was ok for months at a time? Dude the "leaders" of Torval's wish to use what power she has left to attack the feds and thats a problem because....... oh right "do as I say not as I do" lol

This sucks big ones.

Obviously a complete failure of a power (even more so than whatever has been said about Archon Delaine).

Throw in the towel and distribute it around? There is something wrong with the mechanics right there.

the Imperial High Council who have concluded in accordance with my view that under the rules of the game they are a legitimate tactic.

How this can be legitimate? The only way it is legitimate is that there is no rule book in the game and what you can do, you can do. In a car racing analogy, this is like driving the cars of a friendly team which has 0 chances of success into walls or other cars just to disrupt the chances of success of the adversaries. It actually happened, in F1, with cases such as the infamous Singapore race with Nelson Piquet jr. crashing his car under team orders to let Alonso win. Did Alonso keep his victory? Yes, but everyone saw it as cheating by Renault and in fact their manager was suspended indefinitely.

So in my point of view although the game allows such a thing (in the sense that it does not impede it), you're clearly acting without sportsmanship and this is assimilable to other cheating techniques like 5C, which is too allowed by the game.

This is really disgraceful, and another nail to the coffin where some people decided to bury fairness in powerplay. That's basically a delcaration of 5Cing an abandoned Power in advantage of others, and now I hate to say that more than a suspect can be raised about the mess that's become of Torval in the last months.

I only hope that we will have new rules sooner or later, such that behaviours like this will be completely impossible by game mechanics themselves.

Let's hope we'll endure as much to see that.
