At a total loss

How is it I can repeatedly hit someone in a viper with C2 multicannons AND C2 beam laser, and only take 1 ring of their shields, while they take mine apart practically in 1 pass?

It's almost as if I've lost ALL combat ability as I close in on 500 kills.
 
I dont know, but your not the first person to say this. A few believe the better your weapons the less damage they do. I heard someone say beam lasers dont do the damage they should.

I had a similar feeling too.

It could be whats know as not working as intended.

Using cannons as primary choice, with beams as a sort of more accurate rail gun (tried rail guns and they're great but you miss and that's it)

4 pips to weapons, 1 engines, 1 systems during combat, unless my shield takes a beating, then 3/3 to weapons/shields or 2 1/2 and 3 1/2.

Bean combatting since prem beta, was even earning upto 27k an hour just in dog fights. Now I struggle to hit anything, and when I do it's like I'm using a spud gun against their gunship cannons.
 
i was blasting the tar out of an npc cobra a few days back and didn't even dent the shields for a good 30 seconds, then suddenly they were gone - this was in an anaconda with 4 multi-cannon and 2 class 5 G beams. you may have been damaging them but for some reason it didn't show up on your HUD.
 
gotta be a bug. i've counted it, it takes me 10 hits with four c2 pulse lasers to take down a cobra's shields.
(in a viper, 4 pips to weapons)
 
I think it's network related desync.
Quite a few times friends have said my shields aren't going down in dogfights with them.
I guess that you are hitting and damaging them but you aren't seeing that on your screen. They might not be taking damage on their screen and then all of a sudden all the damage has been applied at once when resync'd.
Noticed that happening to me a couple of times recently.

Because they have 2 x Class FOUR cannons? And possibly 2 x Class Two cannons as well?
 
yeah, fight against 4 cannon viper who hits his target hard in anything other than 4 cannon viper will make you flee, i know that for a fact :)

so 2 multicannons and 2 lasers require way too much time to get enemy shields down if 2-4 hits from cannons will start damaging hull, keep in mind that 4 cannons are shot same time so if they all hit it hurts, also even if you hit just with one side (c2+c4) or just with one c2 it still will be noticeable, and if you have fixed lasers you must fly straight to enemy ship and keep straight all the time while cannonner can shoot and just do anything he wants between the shots :)
 
Lasers do more damage to shields. Projectiles do more damage to hull.

Get gimballed weapons until you're a bit more proficient in combat. Get fixed weapons only once you've got your 'deadeye'. Gimballed weapons do less damage than fixed.

Mixing fixed weapons is tricky, on account of the different aim points of Lasers and projectiles.
 
I'm proficient in combat, certainly (well I was until this week)

My projectiles are gimballed, and beams are fixed.

Until this week I've had no problems with mixing different types of weapon, my best setup was railguns and gimbaled burst's on a cobra.
 
Been using cannons alot.. they are way to OP as they are right now.. they damage shields almost as good as hull.. that can't be right.
 
Pretty well every problem I have had in the betas have been network related, I have a fast PC and a fast Connection. My personal view is that the network issues will for technical reasons, never be fully resolved in this game.

Had something similar happen yesterday in a fight with an NPC, his shields showed as one ring, but I was landing shots and seeing them hit the hull with the hull damage sounds.

It was as if there was a lag in my scanner updating with his proper shield value.

The day before I actually had rubber banding NPCs around a station, only lasted a few seconds.

I've put it all down as a symptom of the networking stuff ongoing but should we be logging tickets for things like this?
 
I'm assuming it's just lag. It's happened to me on a few occasions. Shot the hell out of something doing seemingly no damage so I left it alone and 2 minutes later it exploded.

There could be so many factors that cause de-sync or "lag" or whatever you want to call it. I'm not even sure if it's worth ticketing. They should be able to tell if their servers are choking, same as us if it's our ISP or someone else in the house is hogging all the bandwidth.
 
I've personally not found energy weapons to be nearly as good as cannons or multicannons. The reduced damage to shields is negligible when you consider the greatly reduced heat production, energy usage and overall damage. Ammo is cheap as hell, too. A Viper with C4 and C2 cannons is a notoriously good wrecking ball. Having to take into account target leading with cannons goes some way to balancing them, and admittedly haven't shot at many players to test it's effectiveness against them.
 
I heard something about beams being bugged and so underpowered but I don't think its energy weapons in general, I have a Viper with 2xC2 pulse and 2xC2 Burst, pulse for range and burst for when I know I won't miss and I can take out a cobra with remarkable efficiency. It sounds like the OP was the victim of poor network synchronisation. IE the enemy had been firing at him longer than his game client had shown him.
 
I don't know about lag, but in a 15 minute dogfight with another ship, i saw hits, and saw shields going down on the ship, but they were so slow and never fully depleted. I must have used nearly 1/2 of my cannons and overheated the beams with 2 heatsink jettisons to get him down to just over 1/2 shield. It was an anaconda, but shuoldnt' have taken that much.

Not so sure on this. Had a bash at lunchtime today, and shields were falling dead with my beams, and barely overheating, still in a Viper (until i stopped watching the screen to read a post and flew into the station :eek: )
