Will there be more than 2 New Ships?

The Krait Mk II is a decent explorer, I have mine at just over 57 ly but it would be nice to have a dedicated explorer for an explorer update. It's pretty clear the Mamba is combat based but have no idea about the Phantom, the Krait variant. Anyone know anything about any kind of stats? Would love an imperial explorer though, that would be icing on the cake.

I don't actually know anything about the Phantom, but on the assumption that it's a lightweight Krait it would be reasonable to expect it to have better jump range.

You can fit easily 2 hours of stream if you plan to adjust some existing ships also =)

I bet for a third ship but who knows.

I just don't hope too much for not being disappointed.

* OMG i really want a empire dedicated ship haha *

Yeah, I'm pretty convinced right now that the Phantom is going to be an exploration Krait. It has less hardpoints and no SLF, so it's not a combat variant. It might be a mining focused Krait, but then the Krait II is decent at mining already, so a mining version would only mean more cargo room? Maybe it's both and exploration and mining variant: a Krait with higher number of internals and cargo cap but less combat effectiveness, and when it's lightened up and rigged for exploring it jumps up there with the best of the fleet?

At this point I'd say it's not only possible, but leaning towards probable.

I'd say we don't need any pointless ships, that don't actually add anything new to the game. Hopefully any new ships can do something existing ships either cannot do, or can't do as well (but without eclipsing existing ships... which is difficult to manage).

I have two problems with this.
1) Who gets to choose what is pointless?* In fact the point of adding a new ship is to have a new ship! So by definition not pointless.
2) There are worlds of opportunity to do things in ships which are less than optimal. Everyone in the same ship is just meh. Drive down a road and see how many cars aren't Aston Martins.

* To me all of the new guardian and combat related ships are 'pointless' because that's not what I enjoy in elite. I'm blazing my very own trail!!! Many people love that side of the game and thats awesome (as the young 'uns now say).

Oh! I know the answer to this one! That guy (******) who spent thousands of words proclaiming, then reproclaiming, that the Krait was an entirely pointless ship. And now we're getting another one!

That pointless Krait has made it to rank 14 of the most used ships on Inara.

I dunno.......the name Phantom doesn't give me explorer vibes. If anything that gives me the impression that she'll make for a great smuggler.

To be an all round explorer it (IMO) needs the same number of slots as the MkII. Heck, if it was an explorer, why not call it Krait Explorer?

Is it Thursday yet?

How could you possibly miss the Type-10 ... it's big enough ! :p

Cobra IV is not there either :x

The clipper, type 7 and Orca should actually be medium sized ships. You also missed around 10 ships from the list.

So in reality its 14 small, 18 medium and 6 large

Maybe we need a huge class (Panther clipper??) ;)

Also the Boa could fit into the large slot. Not sure where the Moray starboat would go, but hey lets add that in too with next seasons water landing ;)

I'm sorry to say that you both missed the point of my list.
The 12 that I "missed" off the list are the variants.

The list is only distinct, unique designs.
The Cobra IV and T10 are variants, so they come under the "Cobra+" and "Type 9+" entries.

Constrictor
Wolf MkII
Panther Clipper <----------

But perhaps "The ships" refer to an overhaul of the existing ones. :)

Some Imperial medium class combat ships wouldn't go amiss, seeing as we currently have none to rival the Feds Dropship, Gunship, Assualt ship or the Alliance versions of the same.

Come on Fdev, FREE the Imperial Hunter! You know it makes sense

I have wanted that ship for ever, but aesthetically you have to admit it shares far more with the chieftain line than any imperial ship.

Also been waiting for an imperial medium for ever.

40k yl agreement

 Agreed! I had to see if there were others that thought the Emipre(s) should have large dedicated ships for exploration. That is what an Emipre does, it expands... To do that you need agile ships to cross the Galaxy, to go deep and reach the top of the mass of systems... [yesnod]

It wouldn't hurt too much to lower the mass on it, to make it (maybe) the highest jump range available. After all, a scout is supposed to quickly go out and search (scouting) and not be a combat or full blown exploration. Just finding stuff for the expedition. Scouting the path or next base camp.

I sympathize with the idea, but then it would get in the way of the Asp Explorer, which is supposed to be the explorer of the two.

Am I the only one that is disappointed that the Mamba looks nothing like a Mamba?

Another triangular wedge shaped ship would get much more criticism.
The new Mamba happens to be an awesome and incredibly seductive design.
I am not disappointed at all. Quite the opposite. I am even more stoked about the Mamba than I was about the Krait and I love the Krait.

Yeah, but with the scout having less optionals, the Asp X is more well rounded explorer (2 more optionals), where you can have SRV, AMFU, or such.

Tomorrow, I'm going to do some experiment to see Guardian FSD boost works on the DBX, ASP X and scout, just for fun. :)
