Engineers Kamitra Cigars ... sigh...

Can we PLEASE change how this works? I have to run to a system to get some cigars. Sure thing! I get there and they have 6000+ of them but for some insane reason I can only get 45 out of 50 that I need to unlock Hera Tani.

Seriously, who is the guy that thought this was a good and fun experience? NOW i have to run and drop off my 45, come all the way back for 5 and do it again? Really? Just.... really?

It's like you don't want people to play the game sometimes with this kind of craziness.

Get ready, the second run is when the crazy OP NPC will interdict you with plama multicannons so you can never finish this delivery.

Frankly speaking, comparing to other grinds, this is the most benign one... And it's one time only: you unlock the engineer and that's it.

What is the problem really? Normally you will only be able to get 15...

And this getting rare commodities are as far as I can tell, one of the few ways to introduce players to the noble art of cargo missions, going back and forth. As Rare commodities have always had a limit on how many you can buy each time. So this allows players in different ship sizes to complete this task.

As if we put the goal of gathering any standard commodities, and set the goal that you have to make 3 trips in a Type 9 outfitted for hauling cargo with shields, that is some 752T of cargo, so we are talking about ~2250 T of cargo to deliver....

Now do the same maths in a smaller ship... Take Type 7. With shields this ship manages 300T... now that those 3 trips is now 8 trips...

That was not so much.. but we are not done, lets go down to an even smaller ship, Type 6. With shields this ships managed 104T, so this would mean a Type 6 would need 22 trips!

So if we go the other way around, use the Type 6 as measurement, 3 runs, lets make the Type 6 an even 100T, so now a Type 7 could do this in a single run, and same with the Type 9..Not much going back and forth in those scenarios.. and there are plenty of ships that can do 300T... And does not matter how you slice and cut this, common commdities is bad for this as we have varying ship sizes. And thus we have the rare commodities instead.... that more or less put everyone on an equal footing, as even the Mighty Hauler can get 20T of cargo with shields...

So I hope you get the point on why they uses the rare goods for this stuff.....

And if you look at all the different tasks the engineers requires to unlock all of them, you should see a trend on doing most of the things Elite offers, and in many cases, they push you past your comfort limit for stuff you do not fancy that much... Just so that you need to spend some time on it. maybe you get a new understanding on what is required or it simply enforces that you you do not like it. But you only need to unlock the engineers once....

I do not think the Unlocking of the engineers is problematic, we have other issues, especially in the old system that was much more troublesome than this is.

45? I thought it was usually 5-10.

But yeah it is ridiculous, the worst form or artificial, nonsense, enforced grind.

The net result of this gameplay implementation is that players end up feeling like OP, in disbelief at how ridiculous it is. Then anger, and frustration.

If this sort of mechanism is important for gameplay, make the requirement 3 different rares, 10 cigars, 10 brandy, 10 evil juice, job done.

I'd also add if you think visiting a station twice is bad, try unlocking Lei Cheung as a non-trader, where you have to sell an item in 50 different stations, just because...

And I know exactly what rares they would picked in this case. all the stuff that is far away from anything else....would that have been much better? No you would be here complaining about all the 100's of LY you have to cover to get all these rares.... I am a bit suprised that they did not request rares that where in a permit locked system... probably just an oversight...

It gets worse

Its easier to just suck it up and grind a few trips back and forth then to access Marco Qwent. For him you have to kiss the Sirius Corp. then get a specialized mission to unlock their system. oh and finally give Qwent some Modular Terminals. Whats worse is even if you don't want him you have to deal with him to unlock Prof Palin and Jameson.

This poor dead horse needs to be buried not beat up any more.

Also, he only needed to make 2 trips, system must be in boom or something, I think I had to do like 4 or 5 trips(not counting the one where I bought some, dumped then 10KM from station and tried to find them again, Solo teas bagging, Didnt work ..lol)

Kids have it so easy and still complain, they didn't have to walk the 10 miles to school uphill both ways in the snow barefooted........

There is also your ability to wait 10 minutes and you'll be able to rebuy again. You got 45 at one buy!! Jeesh don't complain most of us had a lot less. Also hook up with a friend with the lower quantities available.

Edit: There is also the "East India Trading Company" for those so inclined.

This only applies when you get less than the normal max allocation (which I think is 15), so if you turn up during a war and only get offered 6 tonnes, then waiting 10 minutes will get you 6 more tonnes, but waiting a further 10 minutes will only get you 3 more tonnes.

I've said it before and I'll say it again here.

Rare goods trading can be good fun, the classic rares loop was pretty good at one point and more varied than a-b back and forth trading.

Engineers making people try different elements of game play isn't a bad idea either.

However the way engineers introduce rares trading is nuts. Why would you go back and forth for one rare good? Why don't you have to collect x tonnes of any rare good and then you look at system states to figure out the most efficient way to do it, set off complete your loop (hopefully with some incoming fire or illegal goods to make it interesting) and then deliver the goods in one hit.

The simply answer to this is that I do not think this is about the rare trading at all, it is more about the general trading, of going back and forth between to locations to buy/sell stuff. and using rare gods, makes this more "equal" regardless of what ship you fly. As most of the time, rares can only be bought in quantities of 15, just about any ship can be outfitted to hold 15T of cargo. But trying to have bring x amount of "fish", would directly favour those players who have access to big ships. as these can do this is in fever runs, compared to those who have only access to smaller ships. With rares they do not get this issue... Just my take on this.

I kind of remember doing the rare runs for the engineers. I only slightly remember because I thought they were not that much of a hassle.

Too many people have this attitude lately.
