Fuel Scoop Engineering

Has anyone gone to Colonia yet to get their Fuel Scoop engineered?

What do they do with it? I'm not going all that way unless it gives an improvement worth the trip.
 
What exactly can Marsha Hicks do to fuel scoop, what Bill Turner and Lori Jameson can't? :)
They're a lot easier to unlock.

Bill Turner:
- unlock Tod McQuinn (at least 10 bounties worth at least 100k)
- unlock Selene Jean (at least 500 mined tonnes, of which at least 10 Painite)
- unlock Bill Turner (obtain Alioth permit, 50 tonnes Bromellite)

Lori Jameson:
- unlock Elvira Martuuk (short exploration trip + relics)
- unlock Marco Qwent (Sirius permit, 25 modular terminals)
- unlock Lori Jameson (Dangerous combat rank)

Marsha Hicks:
- unlock the Dweller (5 black markets + cash)
- unlock Marsha Hicks (exploration rank Surveyor + 10 Osmium)

So if you only need a G1 shielded fuel scoop (and there's not a lot of point in going further than that) it's a much more straightforward way to get it.

IIRC Lori is located on Shinrarta Dezhra, so you need to add "elite status" to the requisites list too.
 
I do kinda wish they'd add an engineering mod to speed up the scoop. Not that it's actually needed, but just so that there would be a useful scoop mod for explorers. ;)
 
I also wondered why regular hull reinf has engineering as opposed to the guardian variant and the same doesn't apply to module reinf mods.

Anyway, scooping is fast enough as it is! And since it is massless and ammo-less it makes sense that there's not much else to engineer on it. Shielding makes a difference for exploration and fast travel.

Other potential mods:

- Elemental Analysis G1 / G2 / G3 (automatically gives you the star data from scoopable stars (so no black holes f.e.) when you're scooping for (G1:28s, G2:14s, G3:7s), when you're this close anyway it makes sense in the 3300's to get the data on the star from the composition of the matter you're scooping). Nobody likes scanning the main star anyway, right?
- (experimental) Redundant injection chambers: when you activate the jump sequence and jump while scooping (heat zone: risk), a small portion (1 ton?) of the fuel spent is returned, as you were still scooping upon exit (a big load to go)
