State of VR in 3.3 Beta.

I'm pretty confident this will be fixed. QA was quick to identify this in the bug report forum and report it to the devs. It's going to be interesting to see what fixes they managed to get into todays build.

Hopefully some of the VR quirks where easily identified and fixed. *fingers/eyes crossed*[wacky][wacky]

Do we know that there will be an update today?

Apropos nothing, the FSS, the way it is implemented, just about cries out for Leap Motion, Minority Report style interaction, when in VR, IMO -- even more so than the system/galaxy maps, etc. Should make operating all of those remove-the-cockpit modes significantly faster and more natural to deal with, than puttering about with the joystick.

They should have just made the FSS open in cockpit on a screen (same goes for the Gal / Sys maps). Surely it would be both the easiest to impliment (it would be in 2D so no 3D wierdness) and more immersive for the VR player, who under the current implimentation is being magically whipped out of the his/her cockpit with no real transition to speak of and placed in limbo.

This is from the Patch Notes for Beta 2. There is hope for VR :)

VR

  • Fixed Neutron star cones only appearing in the left eye of the HMD
  • Fixed FSS help screens not appearing in VR
  • Ensure the system scan intermediate zoom background is limited to the overlay grid region (should make intermediate zoom levels more comfortable on VR)
  • Probes should fire based on the targeting reticule instead of the direction you are looking
  • Popups in the orrery view should now be fixed in space, and not follow the camera
  • Ensure bodies discovered with the FSS are centered
  • Corrected oversized icons in orrery view
  • Improvements to head look control when using the orrery
  • Capped the frame rate whilst on the main menu to 90fps, to stop HMD's overheating

This is brilliant for us VR users, means we can actually go back to Beta and use the FSS. Good work FD

Known VR Isuues of Beta 2:
  • FSS background warps with view direction when semi-zoomed in when in VR.
  • FSS signals may not render correctly to both eyes in VR.
  • FSS scan planet rings move with view direction in VR.
  • Switching between VR and non-VR may crash when in FSS.
  • Line sizes in Orrery don't scale well in VR.

Ah, that would explain it. I've never switched VR off....

I never had either until the beta. Didn't even know it was possible [haha] Would launch in desktop mode, do what I needed to, close, restart in VR, continue. So much easier now that I know there is an option in the graphics for it.

Haven't played Beta since having the scanner screen crash. Downloaded today and am glad to see that it works now. I am however having the issue of zooming into a discovered planet and not having the planet appear (the space between the guides remains black) Asteroid fields are like huge pixelated blocks.

I am just two weeks into VR ED and am still blown away. I cant imagine going back to 2D and hope that Frontier continue to support the VR headsets. Surely it's the future of gaming?

Is it me, or has aliasing increased dramatically in this beta?

With my preferred settings I think it looks worse yeah.

(I accidently started with SS 1.5 and HMD 1.0 at one point and it looked dreadful. SS 1.0 and HMD 1.5 definitely give a better experience for me on a lenovo explorer.)
