News Beyond - Chapter Four Livestreams (08.11.2018) – New Ships

.....many of us expected new ships suited to utilizing the new mechanics with.

New combat ships with a largely non combat update feels like a miss to me personally, and I have to wonder why Frontier didn't understand that?

Expectations based upon wishes are mostly empty and ripe for disappointment, which looks like the result here.

Also, perhaps they did understand that you personally would feel like that, but decided not to pander to your personal feelings. That's also an option.

I'm with you on the sentiment about exploration/mining ships Mengy - particularly as this update gives us so many new toys :D

I'm also tempted to believe a previous comment in one of the threads that Combat ships generate extra (cash) revenue in paint jobs/ ship kits in comparison to revenue from us boring old (insert word of choice) who enjoy exploration & mining so it makes sense financially to keep that particular revenue stream fed with new dishes...

Maybe the new Mamba could make a great, heavily armed, explorer? Space is DangerousTM so we keep getting told [yesnod]

Well, it's got the ideal cockpit for exploration. But given a) it's gorgeous. b) it has a great hardpoints for combat and c) great visibility... you wouldn't want it to be the best at everything.

Sure, I know that, but I have to wonder why Frontier's choice of ships to implement seems so slanted towards combat only?

The situation reminds me a bit of Blizzard's latest Blizzcon where they announced a mobile Diablo game at a typically PC convention, and have received tons of backlash because they are completely disconnected from what their core audience wants. Now, Elite has a lot of combat players of course, but it also has a LOT of non combat players too, yet so many of the latest new ships have only been for combat players. And 3.3 seems to be a repeat of that unless the Phantom is not for combat.

I'm concerned that Frontier's choice of ship development seems so disconnected from what players want and expect. This is the long awaited huge core update to mining and exploration, and many of us expected new ships suited to utilizing the new mechanics with.

Well said.

There's is quite the number of explorers and miners out there who have been asking for some lct for those two professions in the game.
Especially 3.3 is a good answer to that imho and adding two new ships would fit right in, one for mining and one for exploration.
The Mamba is most likely a combat ship again, so not fitting the biggest purpose of the 3.3 update, and that while we've been given quite the number of combat ships/SLFs already in the previous Beyond updates.

Fdev has realy proven me wrong with the 3.3 update but another combat ship unfortunately takes away quite a bit of the shine.

Let's just hope the Krait Phantom will be a nice surprise, even if it's a half copy/paste from the previous one model wise.

I, for one, am looking forward to this. I've not read/watch anything about the 2 ships we already know about. All I know is that we've seen one on the trailer and NPC's were seen piloting the other one.

Plus, there is a small, teeny-tiny part of me that believes that FDEV will surprise us with something on this stream. And even teenier-tinier part of me hopes, very quietly but still, that it will be a new SRV. Plus, the rest of this Chapter 4 update is very impressive to me and it makes up for everything \o/

The only thing I will say though is that if there will be no surprise of any kind on this stream, I will be disappointed with Fleet Carriers being removed from this patch, as I think that the extra bits we got apparently instead of them are not worth removing the Carriers. (If I interpreted Zac's words correctly, they were working on other extra things for Chapter 4 instead of FC's).

One way or another - looking forward to the stream!

I'll be watching the big reveal on the livestream as it is the 'sensible' thing to do, but am not particularly excited about it now we have been told "2 ships" and it appears those 2 have already been spotted in beta.

From the beta-announcement:

...and more!

There's a number of other huge changes coming to Elite Dangerous, including visual improvements, background simulation updates, and (yet to be revealed) cockpit interface changes, and other features that we can't wait to tell you about.

I've been waiting for the Panthera all year, so I'd be mighty disappointed if it doesn't turn up. That being said, if the Krait Phantom is a decent smuggler it might tide me over for a while. I'm not holding my breath, though. I was *really* hoping the smuggling update was going to be like the the Oolite smuggling mod, but instead we got an update that did literally nothing about smuggling. At least I'm good at making up my own objectives, I guess. Maybe in the far future when FDev releases the source code I'll just make my own version of the aforementioned mod to keep myself happy, but I'm done expecting nice things. I've had BrabenVision™ Glasses since I first started playing, but I've taken them off this year. I started to feel too much like an X-Files fan, if you catch my drift. I've got a CG idea that might make me more interested in the future, but if that gets shot down then I might just take a break for a while and pick up the pieces when I return.

Errr, has anyone seen the pic's FD put out on twitter?

OK, so that's the Mamba I think, and bloody gorgeous it looks too!

But what the hell is this???

New ships are the lower priority aspects for me personally so I'm good with whatever they bring out. It, for sure is odd, that an chapter heavily featuring updates and developments to Exploration and Mining might not include role spectific ships.

S!

That's the Krait Phantom. There are only two new ships, so if it isn't the Mamba then it must be the Phantom.

Well, they have to retain a sense of mystery for those who haven't been following the Forum :D

Still vaguely interested in the Krait Phantom - will know for sure later.

Anybody feel the rest of the livestream will cover 'changes' like the Saud Kruger (not that I have all 3 - 2 of one...) ships dedicated slots gone, maybe even a new 'balancing pass' on ships?

(ducks to avoid pitchforks and thrown asteroids by 'conda crowd :p )
