Will there be more than 2 New Ships?

The Phantom has 8.23ly laden jump range? o_O

This had better be a typo.....

Sounds about right, what is wrong with that stat? The Asp is around 11.00ly

Obviously the manufacture stats are never the optimum build stats. Those are the raw E-Grade figures.

I believe it's the range with the default outfit when bought, meaning E rated FSD. According to Coriolis the normal Krait has 7.66ly laden range then, which would make the Phantom superior in that regard, provided the default cargo racks are similar in size.

That is better then the stock krait mk2 which is 7.66. Could be a good exploration vessel. The Mamba is 6.37ly.

Oh I see now, the article is using E rated ships laden. So yeah the Mamba likely jumps similar to an FDL and the Phantom likely jumps a bit more than an optimized Krait II.

I was hoping for a Phantom which could at least match the Asp X for range. We’ll have to see how far engineering can push it.

This suggest a 10% increase in speed and range over the Krait. In other words, a fully outfitted light-weight multi-role ship will have a range of approximately 50LY with a FSD booster, and a boost of 600+ m/s. I know that is for some explorers not interesting, but it is very interesting for people explorers like me.

Im intrigued by that "nebula" behind the Krait Phantom on the PC Gamer article, it appears to be orbiting that planet\moon.

It could be even better as they said that the Phantom has more cargo space which could mean the default racks are better. Just have to wait until tonight or next week.

If they don't give us the Panther Clipper soon, then I will write-off this game. I don't mean their definition of soon either.

Just sayin'.

Maybe next year's paid update will introduce it along with the Fleet carriers - but why do so many people want a huge cargo ship that will make the T10 look like the new Mamba? Am I missing something obvious?

Actually I think it might be better than that for explorers…

The Krait II has an E rated laden range of 7.66lys, but with engineering it can reach up to 63.4lys while in explorer trim with SRV. That’s an improvement ratio of 8.28.

Since the Phantom is a variant of the Krait II it’s a good assumption it will have a similar improvement ratio via outfitting and engineering, so 8.23lys * 8.28 = 68.11lys potential range for the Phantom, outfitted and engineered similarly.

That’s not Asp range, but it’s better than Orca range. And if the Phantoms hull mass is lower than the Krait II then the end result might be better yet.

That’s promising. Not what I was hoping for, but the little details might make it better than we can theorycraft right now. If it can jump that far then it might actually tempt me to mothball the Asp X for awhile.

IMHO, still nuffin to knock my Trouser Python of my top of the perch 'Medium Pad good at everything ship' ;)

Python to Krait we lost 30t in hull mass. We should see a bigger boost in jump range when we went from a Python to Krait using same internals.

-edit-
They might even of boosted supercruise agility, we never know.

It looks like the Phantom will have a better jump range then the Mk2, good enough for me.
So maybe not a dedicated new explorer ship but perhaps a nice alternative, I'm game for sure, going out exploring with the new cool toys and a brand new ship.

I'll probably buy a Mamba too, just for it's aesthetics.
