Try as I might I just can't seem to get OBS studio to record the video of Elite - all I get is the black screen plus audio tracks.

I really don't want to install GeForce Experience as I hate it's intrusiveness and read that OBS is highly recommended so wonder if anyone can give me pointers about getting it sorted for Elite.

I Have a 8GB 1070 - I run my display at 2560 x 1440 - system is an i7 6700K @4GHz with 16 GB ram.

WorksForMe running the game in borderless window and using a window capture on "[EliteDangerous64.exe]: Elite - Dangerous (CLIENT)" and matching by title or a window of the same executable. The only checked option is "anti-cheat compatibility". Make sure you don't have the capture scaled to 0x0px or shifted entirely off the scene, OBS seems to sometimes start sources like that.

I'm capturing at 60FPS and downscaling to 720p, that yields decent results; a 30FPS, capture tends to stutter a lot.

These are my settings for 4k60 recordings:

You'll probably want to reduce the bitrate for 1440p60; try 24000 to start with and adjust as needed.

For the video settings menu, make sure the base and scaled resolutions are the same (2560*1440) and 60 fps is set. Scaling shouldn't be used, so just leave it on bilinear.

Under "advanced" video options, you want NV12 and 709. Full range YUV is best for archival, but for uploading you may want to use limited.

Audio should be 48Khz for uploading, and whatever audio track you have selected to record from should be set to 320kbps.
