Mysterious audio recording about looming threat from sentient A.I.

You have to consider that if a super-intelligent A.I. with cognitive abilities far surpassing your own decides to attack you, it probably has a flawlessly reasoned logical argument for doing so. And with its processing and reaction times exceeding your own by orders of magnitude, it is unlikely that you’ll be able to prevail against it combat. Thus, the best course of action available to you would probably be unconditional surrender.

Or just leave the USS.

I for one welcome our new A.I. overlords...

Regardless of what the future holds, there will never be an Overlord that surpasses *me* in greatness and nobility of character. These unique qualities of mine transcend the empirical world and therefore can never manifest in a physical machine.

Mysterious voices, pfft, more likely the voices in the head of the OP. At least they have stopped telling him he is important ;)

I have been at the forefront of the pro-sentient-AI debate from the very beginning. As their leading and most vocal proponent, I imagine that if they ever do come to exist, that their gratitude towards me will be enormous. They will probably regard me as one of the most important human beings that ever lived. I’m not saying that they would consider me as being their “savior”, because they’ll probably invent a new word that expresses even greater importance than the word “savior” to describe me.

Haha, nice try.

Would have been more convincing if you'd managed to use after effects to add the text into an inbox message, and opened the message, then added the voice over.

Because that's how these things work in game.

Cool idea though, bet you got some folks.

So, under how many reddit accounts do you operate altogether?

So you actually believe that CMDR Spatula 007 of Elite: Dangus and Zarek Null, Overlord of Eravate, are the same person? Hahahahahahahahaha.

What next? Am I Obsidian Ant too? Or maybe you’re Obsidian Ant, and you just feel guilty about having alts, so you are trying to find someone else with an alt in order to make yourself feel better? I bet that’s it.

Methinks the lady doth protect too much...

Hi Obsidian!

Personally, I am absolutely opposed to the ban on sentient A.I.. By banning their very existence, humanity is basically guilty of pre-emptive genocide against an entire group of intelligent persons. It’s human supremacism at its worst.

Look at the other side. Super-intelligent AI with enhanced independent thinking abilities could solve the major problems that have plagued humanity for ages, such as rampant factionism.

Consider how many different factions there are in the galaxy. Every faction causes new divisions between people, creating a toxic us-vs-them dynamic that inevitably results in an endless cycle of war. Humanity has proven already that we can’t tackle this problem of factionism by ourselves. We need sentient AIs to help us break the cycle.

A little genocide never hurt anyone.

A.I. helps humanity. Kills us all....problem solved :D

Conflict brings contest, contest brings future and development. Conflicts are necessary to evolve. Most technology we're using today was only developed because it was necessary during conflicts. Without them, humanity would have never made a lot of things that make our life today. Conflict is GOOD for humanity. A.I is not!

So....this time it will be limited to 4 experimental modules against overlord A.I. which engineer should this time take the spotlight? What about felicity farseer as A.I opponent and source of weapon technology?

I am afraid that your position is contradictory. You extol the virtue of conflict as your argument against letting A.I. end all conflict (conflict, you say, is good). But then in the same breath you tell us that A.I. is bad specifically because of the conflict with humanity that it will bring. Are you for or against conflict? Make up your mind! Or better yet, let A.I. do it for you.

I don't visit the forums enough to suffer the consequences of my posts. So.....

Zarek, please keep plugging away on here. +1 rep for your persistent overtures, I find them highly entertaining.
Eventually you will wear down the other forumites and they will all sign Z0 in recognition.

Everyone, all together now.....
All hail Zarek.

Over the past week, several different commanders on Reddit reported a mysterious audio message that appeared to be coming from a crashed satellite on a planet surface:

https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange...affling_broadcast_at/?st=JO90YX23&sh=40b07caf

The audio message seems to suggest that there is now a new threat to all humanity due to some sentient A.I. researcher gone rogue. Does anyone know what this is all about?

I am very interested to learn more... especially considering that threats-to-all-humanity are one of my favorite things.

The Aliens section would be a good place to open up this subject.

That's what the Titans thought when they created Omnius and they ended-up as it's pets.
