Greetings CMDRs,

for many of you today is the day like any other. For me - it's a day of great importance. I'm not good at speeches so bare with me with this little ancient history. In 1795 three powers divided one country among themselves making that country to disappear from world's map. This situation remained unchanged for the next 123 years. Under foreign rule, under strict laws that prohibited cultivating cullture, language and beliefs - people of that country remained and survived. Dreaming about freedom and independence. Until one day it happened. After long 123 years of slavery and submission that country rised again, like phoenix from the ashes, and claimed their homeland for themselves. Once again that country was on the world's map. It was year 1918.

That country was Poland.
My country.
Today is a 100th anniversary of that day.

Standing today, in a country that is free and independent I would like to say" thank you". To all of you who help us, who supported us and to those who remembered us. This may be nothing form a random guy. But I'm aware that we weren't alone back then. We had allies and friends who stood with us and for us. In a day like this one can realize how important it is to have friends and allies. How peace and freedom isn't granted and sometimes you have to fight for that. In a day like this I see how petty are some quarrels and reasons behind.

I bet among families of you CMDRs there were people who made it possible. That I sit in my chair. In my home. Writing it. And playing this game. As a free and independent person. I'm a grown up man, with a family. And I'm crying. For I'm happy.

Because today we celebrate our Independence Day!

We do sometimes forget that we few are the lucky ones, our lives and leaders may be imperfect but we never fear the steps of the secret police whisking our loved ones away at 5 in the morning (unless you're selling drugs or something neferarious like that). In the world at the moment, people are still starving, thirsty, homeless, they're ruled with tyranny and oppression, gays and druggers are legally being murdered in certain countries, women are still oppressed or genitally mutilated in others.

Freedom is a precious commodity, one that should not be squandered and that we should be prepared to fight for.

Happy Independence Day CMDR, see you in the black (when .3 drops) o7.

Hurrah for Poland! :D And a special thanks from me as a Dutchman, as it quite unlikely we would still be independent and free if it hadn't been for the massive sacrifices made by Poland during the war that followed.

In the U.K. today is Remembrance Sunday where we pay our respects to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice so we could live free and play video games. It’s good to hear how that sacrifice helped your country and to know it was not in vain. What people forget is the reason for remembering is not just to pay our respect but also a warning so that future generations need not go through the hell our ancestors did.

Happy Independence Day commander.

Cheers, CMDR! I never educated myself on your country's history so now you've piqued my interest. Happy Centennial Independence Day to all of Poland!

Sincerely,
An American who is glad his country isn't the only one with lots of personal freedom.

Sincere thanks CMDRs for your kind words and support. It's good to know there are good people out there.

Three cheers to you! Lets us celebrate for not everyone is given an opportunity to witness 100th Anniversary.

Unfortunately, Poland experienced other tragic events during the WW2.

As for all countries and all people, nothing is definitive. Misfortune is always at the corner of the door.

To hope that the war never come back in Europe.

Stay strong, Poland!

11-11 is my daughter's birthday, so it's easy for me to remember your story too.

Happy Independence Day Poland.

Here in the US we are celebrating Veteran's Day.

As a retired military person myself.

In my reading, I had somehow never come across the reference to Poland's independence day. So congratulations.

As a US Military retiree, I appreciate the well wishes from those who remember Veterans day.

For me, 11-11 has an additional significance, and not a happy one. I'll not be celebrating on this day any time soon.
