Truckers up Teide - the In Game Challenge! 11th November

Okay never mind from me. About 45mins into my run, I fell off the mountain and exploded. I don't have time this evening for another run.

Damn.

Ahhh, sorry to hear that dude - there was a fair bit of "falling off the mountain" going on today - you're far from alone. Thanks for giving it a try tho!

And while I'm here, a few random photos (didn't take nearly as many as I'd hoped) ...

I'm callin it a night on this one! I'm making an official submission with a time of 24:57, and I keep falling off the mountain and getting lost so I think that's the best I can do. Congrats Greytest on an excellent time! Shoutout to everyone who lit up the mountain in the dark, and to all the streamers, and to everyone who donated!

Morning everyone! First of all I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to EVERYONE who turned up in-game yesterday and made it such a fantastic event!

I was in and out of the game throughout the day (between 5am and 10pm anyway) and there were always commanders to be found - ships larking around or just quietly parked on the top plateau, commanders base-jumping off of it, SRV's revving their engines at the start co-ordinates in front of it as they made last minute checks, and numerous tiny pinpoints of light crawling their way inexorably up it with their airborne support teams leading the way.

I want to give a special shout-out to commanders like andrego and PKSeven below (and MANY others like them - apologies for not having all your names to hand). There were plenty of people who have hundreds of hours logged in the SRV, who'd practiced the run numerous times, knew their preferred route and were submitting sub-40 minute times. Respect of course to these people who's driving skills are a thing to behold, but for many of the people there yesterday it was not about how fast but about how far. That climb was HARD and to the people who spent literally hours bravely toiling their way up those slopes, sometimes with company, often alone - I salute every single one of you!

o7

In fact, by way of thanks to you all, I raise a 32 gun salute to every single damn person who gave it their best on that mountain yesterday!

In due course the winners will be announced (this is slightly out of my hands as the race submissions didn't go to me) and hopefully I'll be able to publish a complete scoreboard of all the runs submitted.

Also - apologies to anyone who felt left out or excluded yesterday. I know there were times when people turned up to find the mountain empty. This was something I really tried to avoid but I guess, with instancing and timezones and such, it was probably somewhat unavaoidable. Sorry if you messaged me in game and I didn't respond. I tried to give everyone an o7 at the very least but there were occasions when I was busy clinging to my own 70° slopes and couldn't really take my hands off the controls.

And finally, thanks to all the streamers and everyone who made a donation to the charity yesterday (and by the way, last I heard the Truckers had made it to the cabin on the volcano and will have hiked the final stretch this morning to witness a very well earned and hopefully majestic sunrise). Thanks to your generosity the donations currently stand at £9,249.42.

Yes, that's right ... £9,249.42 of a £10,000 target!

So yup, I'm going to be that person (imagine Geldof pounding his fist on a table if you will).

Come on people - we can't let that figure get sooooo close and not tip it over the £10k!

Please please please, if you had fun yesterday (or even if you couldn't make it but have enjoyed reading about it), make a tiny contribution and remind those guys at the top of that volcano what an awesome community this is.

We climbed the mountain because it was there. To help raise funds for charity. To support the Truckers on real life Teide. To challenge ourselves. To inspire others to try SRV climbing. To have fun.

It was my pleasure to be part of this, it was truly a team effort - and in true Elite community spirit, we had no second thoughts about also helping Alec and AkenBosch, who were well on their way to beat our team time.

I agree with Alec and salute and applaud everyone who was there at that mountain, who tried their best and stuck with it to the very end - as there was no failure possible this time. Accepting the challenge in the first place already counts as a success in my eyes.

Thank you from all of us in the Teide hike and bike team. We completed the mission. 50km+ by bike climbing to 2200m then up to 3300 at the AltaVista in an incredibly hard hike. This morning we completed the next 200m altitude to the next staging point and then split due to cable car down being cancelled and 4 stayed up to complete the final 150m and then hike down.

Was difficult, really difficult and it broke most of us.

Thank you so much everyone for the support. We will all be home late Tuesday night.

1hr 12m. Not great but at least I made it to the top.

Hey man! I was 1hr 20 something minutes. Thanks for guiding me all the way up there and basically being a navigation beacon for me!
Cmdr Bra2S ;)

As for the event. I never thought the incline would be so steep there. But still it felt like I was in a Dakar Race. With only 6% of hull and no materials for repairs I've reached the top and I don't care that was slower than 75% of participants. I'd definitely take part in something like that again. Big thanks to all who organized this event.

So my time is 17:50
You can safely mute the video, definitely nothing of value has been said there.

Whew that was amazing! Around your 6:40 mark is when I would start accidentally faceplanting, losing speed, and tumbling to my death. Also good job on navigating your way up there, I always ended up veering off to the right somehow.
