General / Off-Topic Expensive PC's? Here's what 60 quid will buy you...

Found a good deal on Fleabay for this second hand Corsair 600T case and a Corsair H100i GTX water cooler. Start of a new build?...We'll see. I actually like this case batter than my Corsair 650D so I may just fit my gear into it ;)

£60, the price of an Xbox game, bought me this pile of goodness...all buy now with no bidding from the same private seller.

10 minutes later and the screwdrivers are out to remove the top extractor fan and replace it with the radiator and CPU water cooler...

It can be done on a budget just buying bits as you can afford. I know a case and a CPU water cooler are merely a small start...but that's what hobbies are all about, isn't it? ;)

Nice buy. Looks really clean too.

Is that an audio volume dial on the top?

Chassis fan manual speed controller...they're temperature controlled via the motherboard and bios of course, but you can adjust the running speed manually.

On my Corsair 650D case I had to buy a separate unit which fits in one of the external drive bays to do the same. Damn thing cost me more than those 2 put together...

I sometimes entertain the idea of getting a fan controller just for swag.

I'm terrible, I know.

Since I had a few spare bits...I finished the build on that Corsair 600T case... final build:

Asus Z170-P MB
i7 6700K CPU @4.6Ghz
Corsair H100i GTX water cooler
Corsair CX 750M powerpack
16Gb DDR4
GTX1070 dual (8Gb)
2Tb Sata hybrid SSD
Blu-Ray player and other basic bits and bobs.

It's basically the bits I had spare after a few upgrades to the big machine over the last 2 years. I still really like that 600T case though, no fancy LED's or perspex side panels; just plain unstated graphite steel...may still swap it over for the main machine.

Old Skylake case on the right and the 600T for comparison...

Fitting bits...my favourite part. Still needs cable tidying before I fling the sides on :)

I've got a case that has 3 settings, most of the time I don't bother but if I'm going to be playing something intensive - mainly in VR - switch to max before starting it all up. May not do much but might just help on the long term.

The 2 chassis fans I've got fitted on that 600T I plugged into the motherboard so the speed is regulated in the bios by the overall temperature rather than manually. It has an advantage that the intake fan is a 240mm high capacity and the exhaust fan is a custom 120mm which makes for a good air flow through the case...plus the 2x custom 120mm fans on the radiator for the cooler which are also temp regulated by the cooler software in Win 10.

Keeping the thing cool makes it last longer if nothing else...If your CPU temp regularly hits over 60° during intensive gameplay, it may start firing up errors in the long term, hence why I fit the all in one CPU water coolers to anything I build.

They're not that expensive at around 45 quid for a Cooler Master one or £60+ for the Corsair H100i. Both are excellent, both are plug and play and keep that CPU temp below 60° no matter what you're playing... or if you overclock the CPU core a tad ;)
