Sunday 11th November. Attempt 4 at scaling the cursed mountain on TEIDE A

I hope CMDR Scabflake who was in front of me almost all the time made it to the top...

Many thanks and congratulations to all involved, especially Alec Turner who has got me into doing this (kidding). And to those guys on the real mountain who did an unbelievable job on the the same day, marvelous.

Nick is correct, 0.07G.

Any type of undulating terrain, especially uphill, and this mountain is steep, in this gravity is appalling to drive on. just a few feet in the air and you go back down at a great rate of knots! I'm not used to SRV driving anyway so makes it way worse for me. It's like I'm trying to do acrobatic sky diving when I've never even jumped out of a plane (or anything else) higher than 6 feet...

Will watch later.

On the subject of climbing those ludicrously steep slopes, have you seen Nezerroth's videos? They're an absolute masterclass in how to do it.

LOL - oh boy, that made me chuckle! Brings back horrible memories of wheel spinning and sliding and tumbling and ARGHHHHH!

Best thing I’ve seen all day:)

Seems to be a mixture of driving and flying, with the SRV nose pointing down slightly all the time... Nice and steady too. I'm going to find some simpler terrain to practice on then maybe in a few weeks attempt the cursed mountain again.

Were you the guy who griefed me on the mountain early in the day on Sunday? You sure have the same air about you.
Did you make a donation to the charity in the end as I suggested?

That wasn't me.

If driving up a hill constitutes enjoyable gameplay for you then that's great I suppose. I wish I were that easily pleased.

If you can't play nice you won't get to play at all.

What you have to remember about "tilt boosting" up a steep slope is ... the steeper the slope, the close "up" is to being pretty much along the ground. So you gotta get off the ground, a bit, but then IMMEDIATELY tilt pretty much 90 degrees and boost like your life depends on it ... otherwise you're just gonna start falling straight back down again. Really hard to perfect and you don't get any second chances on those super steep slopes.

Thanks for the tip, will add that to "things I have to practice doing in the SRV" on my office whiteboard :)

Also, getting back the the guy you where having problems with on the mountain, your quote - "Were you the guy who griefed me on the mountain early in the day on Sunday? You sure have the same air about you."

I also had some guy the night before (10th), Cmdr CGI Artist, in an Imperial Eagle who asked if he could fire on my SRV as an 'experiment'. My first answer was a negative, but after a short conversation reasoned it would give me some good video footage so why not!

Didn't work out in the end so he destroyed his ship and that was that.

On the 11th, later in the day I saw another Imperial Eagle at the base of the mountain, same colours virtually as the one I encountered. So could well have been him.

Short video I took of part of the incident here.
