FD: STOP spamming the UI, plz...

Currently there are a growing number of warnings and training information creeping into the otherwise minimal and skillfully made UI.

The latest MODE switch info, is not only emblazened in the top right corner in massive font, it is then repeated in smaller font once the HUGE shout has disappeared.

I know Rusty Dog has long campaigned for the abort jump info to be removed from centre screen each time one jumps, that's 30,000 occasions for me know.

Can they be switched off after a while or moved to training materials, or somthing.

The UI is becoming more and more cartoony.

Where can I find this "skillfully made UI" of which you speak?
Indeed, when I read "spamming the UI", I thought about uncontrolled growth of poorly done forms and 100 click operations. After reading the OP I realized he means something else entirely

I'm thinking the UI, is no place for training info, repeated for years and years...

To be fair, I do agree with you.

Before I started playing ED, the one thing I noticed about it, from watching Youtube video's, was how "cartoonish" some of the on-screen messages are.
They're like something out of a Super-Mario game or something.

As you play the game you just become desensitized to them but they're not good, and they're breeding.

Maybe it's just a personal thing but I'd prefer it if there was a proper "info panel" of some sort built into the ship's dashboard where all the messages appeared - accompanied, perhaps, by an audio warning prompting you to look at the info panel.

TBH, I'd get rid of all the "Warning" text too.
You shouldn't need a message telling you you're taking heat damage, for example.
There should just be a warning light on the dashboard somewhere and, again, an audio alert to let you know there's an issue.

Yes man, I think we are encountering warning and training info 'creep'.

Please shift |ALL ]|-MID-|[ HUD| warnings that >>> way!

Refueling and heat, forgot to turn the oven off, everything!

I wanna see where I'm going, not critical-stop nonsense! ;)

Speaking from experience, disabling all the pointless ship voice notifications improved my personal experience with the game. Some of them really started to grind my gears. Now the only time the ship talks to me I know it's something important. I suppose the same could be said about the UI. I really wouldn't mind the jump info gone for example and I'd appreciate if the UI/HUD felt just a little more like the real thing, without pointless CQC ranks and such.

The fact that FD is touching the interface with this update worries me a bit. Experience shows that after a thing in this game has been reworked once, it's very unlikely that they'll touch it again anytime soon. It's a missed opportunity, even though the presented changes are very welcome, they don't nearly go far enough.

This might be a good thing for the suggestion forum. Maybe a toggle to turn off cartoon warnings like we can for station voices and such.

Yes, I think that would be good at this point.

I use the same control on my throttle to toggle FAOFF (when in combat mode) and enter the FSS (in analysis mode). I realized half way through a little dogfight that every time I toggle FAOFF I got a HUD warning (thankfully only in the info panel and not center HUD!) to the effect of "Switch to analysis mode to use the FSS" :D

Yes please FD, an option to turn off some of these warnings. :)

It's the inexorable slide towards "mass market" and "console gaming".

To make the game appeal more to the general public, it has to be dumbed down. One way to do that is to spam more "helpful" messages everywhere. Like the FSS tutorial - it has NO place inside the game. It should be in the tutorial section, or perhaps on the main menu.

It's as if they don't expect anyone to play more than a few months...

Agree. A way to turn on or off at least.

It's actually a bit "non-immersive" since it's referring to game controller button or keyboard key.

Agree. Actually, with training mode, they can give even more info how to launch, land, and whatnot, if they want to, and in advanced, all those hints go away.

Another thing... which has been brought up 50,000 times... a way to modify the colors in the UI without having to tweak a config file. Especially, I'd like to be able to set colors more individually to different sections, like message box dim while radar bright and different colors, and so on.

But think of the consequences of not hearing that useful reminder to obtain landing permission before entering a starport - the one that's constantly broadcast over every starport's PA system and you can only hear after you've come safely through the letterbox. Things could turn nasty without it.
