Female Merchandise

It puts you in the minority of female gamers. Especially since women tend to pick up gaming later than men. But what a great minority to be in don't you think? When you could be wasting your time on other games like mobile micro-transaction money extractor 3, you're playing Elite.

You're right about being in a good minority. At least work is more women to men in my small part of the IT department.

More merchandise general

Its disappointing not to see more merchandise in general at this stage. I think ED are missing a good oportunity to market their product.
For men, women & kids.
A lot of folks looking to get badges, T-shirts, posters etc.
I'd like to see the shop expanding their range esp with xmas in mind:D
Did someone just mention the x..word:p

If I wasn't so broke, I'd love a black man-purse with the elite logo attached on the front... How awesome would that be? You have to admit that logo would be far more awesome on a bag or a purse than anything the fashion industry would put on it.

Heck, if I wasn't so broke I'd get a new sewing machine, some materials and make one myself. Yes, the man can sew. And wears a purse. Try not to faint.

(No, Dr Jones, it's not a satchel: it's a purse.)

EDIT:
Oh yes. Women might like them too. Forgot to mention that part. :)

This forum is one of the most sexist I've seen. Yes, on the internet. Yes, really.

Mostly it's... what's the name? Patronising sexism. It's not the outright woman-hating brand of sexism but the place-is-in-the-kitchen kind. [redacted].

Maybe there's a place for sexist banter - between people who know each other well and consent to fling it at each other for fun. Happens all the time where I work and you know what? it's still a bore to listen to and it still winds people up who haven't choosen to become involved. Whatever; if there's a place it emphatically isn't the galaxy of the 34th century.

More old farts stuck in the Eighties and fewer teenage boys fresh from battering their CODs or whatever it is that makes them want to yell abuse into the nearest mic.

If this is one of the most sexist forums you've seen on the Internet, you must be enormously inexperienced online. In any case you can spare yourself the smugness; this forum is closely moderated, so if a woman takes issue with something and reports it, it'll likely be removed. Besides, women are perfectly capable of speaking up for themselves; they don't need you for that. Tsk, tsk.

Uh, ok?

I must just be reading all the threads you're not. I haven't got that impression at all.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Yaffle already warned about posting sexism masquerading as humor in here. This is the last warning.

I ran a Tee Shirt and Design business for 4 years. Although we did have separate sizes for women, the T-Shirts were essentially the same cut. If we ran out of a design in the womens section there was generally no hesitation from our female customers to buy a small mens size instead.

Form fitting tee-shirts for both men and women obviously exist but are quite fashion specific. And to be honest not something that sells well online as most customers like to try on tight fitting clothing first.

Not really a financially viable outlay at this point in development IMHO.
Gender-neutral is the safe way to go.

Did you ever play Eve online? Not only are their forums a morass of sexism the in game chat is a place you never wish to mention your a female player.

The fact is the merchandise is very limited at the moment and there is nothing I would want to buy. Those T shirts are rubbish.

And still none of the books or the RPG game on there yet? I want Elite Dangerous ties. I want car stickers saying 'My other car is a Cobra Mk 3' or 'Right on, Commander'. I want dark blue T shirts with a subtle Elite Dangerous logo on them or a Cobra battle. I want a comic book. I want a decent black mug. I want the music. I want posters and prints. I want plastic spaceship models and card models. I want signed photos of David Braben. I want a cobra on a spring to hang from my rearview mirror. I want a wookie bobble head with Michael Brookes' face!

So its not just women who are suffering from the lack of merchandising at the moment.

But give them time. Lets not forget that the game hasn't even been released yet.

As a female gamer I have to agree - I'd rather be in the minority in a great game like Elite: Dangerous than one of many in other games. :D I'm not new to being in the minority, I have also played Aces High (World War II Combat Sim) for 14 years, and before that played Air Warrior, another WW2 sim. In both games there were/are very few female players and I love men's reactions when they find out that the person that just shot them down is a woman. :)

As for female merchandise.... I am happy enough with uni-sex t-shirts, though possibly a few more colour options would be good.

Use the pin design as a base for brooch/ear-rings - lose the Elite Dangerous wording and enamel the interior spaces with appropriate colours and you have a very nice art-deco jewellery set.

I like the idea of jewellery - and of course these days ear-rings are also worn by men so could appeal to both men and women. Different ships could possibly be used, as well as the Elite logo? Hmmm, got me thinking now.

Exactly! For all we know they may have great ideas for merchandise already, but there are much bigger priorities to work out first! :D

I have to admit that other than a ship skin there is nothing in the shop that appeals to me to purchase. I hope that will change to perhaps include things with Elite logo's or text like...

More variation in tee shirt designs for both men, women and children
Baseball style caps
Military style caps
Water bottles (for essential lubrication on long flights)
Various sized note books (for making those important trade notes)
Elite metal belt buckle (size: HUGE)
Phone covers perhaps (as long as they do the Nokia Lumia & not just iPhone)
Someone mentioned patches which is a great idea, and potentially cheap-ish
Dog Tags
An Elite styled ring for men and/or women
Elite Logo wallets and purses
How about things like cufflinks, compact mirrors, tie clips?
And lets not forget the mugs too :)

I guess there are places that can do a lot of the above merchandise for individuals who can provide the graphics, but for 'quality' it really has to be done under the wings of Frontiers people.

Frankly, I'd buy a lot of the above for myself, my wife and my kids.
