Greetings,
Where is Leonard Nimoy "Spock" who died in Feb 2015? Where is James Doohan "Scotty" who died in 2005? Where is Deforest Kelley "Bones" who died in 1999? The answer is this game is not a funeral tribute to actors who inspired us per a TV series. Nor is the great Stan Lee who died in Nov 2018 any more or less important.
What many miss is that the concept of the Elite Dangerous game is a tribute to all of them. Without actors and more importantly great writers such as D.C. Fontana. Here is a woman back in the '60s in Hollywood where men writers ruled couldn't get hired using her full name as Dorothy Catherine Fontana and still made a difference in our lives with great writing. If anyone needs a planet named after her it is D.C. Fontana. Her writing inspired us while making a few actors famous.
The point is we are where we are in Elite Dangerous because of great writing, some guys called Bell and Braben, a few Star Trek movies plus a few Star Wars and inspiring us to come up with the best space game ever invented. Enjoy the moment even with these young kids FD programmers who never saw the movie "The Last Starfighter" C1984 knowing that Amiga computers did all the CGI.
We don't need tributes. They are already ingrained into the sole of what Elite Dangerous is all about. When I fly in the game I think of all the great writers that got us here and I didn't mention the great sci-fi book writers.
Any new players read anything by Isaac Asimov, Robert Henlein, Arthur C Clarke, Douglas Adams, Ray Bradbury? They are all in this game if you look close enough.
Regards
