Cutter for mining?

I am currently preparing for the mining update and am considering the Cutter as my new vessel for it.
Is there anything about it that make it unsuitable for mining that I am not aware of?

I do know that if your plans for the day include braking that it would not be the first choice but other than that the maneuverability seem to be adequate enough for the job.

For those of you that use the Cutter for mining, what are its disadvantages in your mind?

I would prefer the conda or the T-10. With the T-10 you can use 4 class 3 Multicannons beside the mining stuff for defending the ship.

The main issue with the Cutter is its braking ability. Just dont go cruising too fast in it. I had one for mining and it was good, but I repurposed it for Thargoid hunting. I use my T-9 for mining now. The Cutter also has enough hard points and utility slots to have decent defensive abilities while being outfitted for a miner also.

The T10's defensive capabilities are a good point but I worry about the sluggish handling. With the new mining tools incoming I figure that a better maneuverability will be beneficial?!

Besides the maximum speed, i expect that the T10 or Anaconda will have better accelerating and deccelerating rates. Can somebody confirm?

My dedicated mining ship is an old cutter taken out of mothball. G5 reinforced prismatics with shield boosters and two point defense on the underside by the cargo hatch, and a g5 weapons focused power distributor...drop into a high res and ignore the pirates as security will come take them out eventually.

Thanks for the answers for far!
It seems the Cutter is a viable mining ship. Ill check out the T10 in Beta as well and see how I like it.

The Cutter has some edge on cargo maybe, but I wasn't really happy using it. (And that was with the Mining Lances that allow for much greater range than standard mining lasers)

I don't know if you have one, but I think the Vette is quite nearly a perfect mining craft.
All the module slots align very nicely to the requirements without wasted space in the slots.
It handles so much nicer than the Cutter in those tight areas.

I'll be interested to see how the unlocked slots on the Beluga might allow for some builds, but I haven't looked real close at that yet.

The Cutter is nice in alot of ways, but I pretty quickly became kinda tired of dealing with the drifting...

Honestly, the best ships for mining are the Type 9 and Type 10. The 'Big Three' all have problems.

Corvette and Anaconda all rear bridge setups, meaning you not only have no visibility below the ship, but your nose often bumps into rocks when you misjudge distance.

Cutter has much better forward view for mining ... but she drifts like a log on rapids and you'll be constantly bumping into rocks. It's the reason why I gave up on using her for RES hunting.

Yep me too.[up]

My main mining ship is my Cutter.

The view is brilliant, as you are up nice and close to the roids. It's fast, has a good distributor, large cargo space, plenty of module slots and excellent weapon placement (if you use the huge and the 2 central medium slots for mining lasers). It also has enough spare weapon slots to defend itself (though that is about to change).
On the downside, it doesn't turn that well, and its brakes are hopeless.

I am a bit concerned with 3.3, with the weapon placement for the new tools. If I want to keep the optimum main hull slots for the old-style mining lasers, that leaves the wing slots for the 3 new tools. But that means they will be in slots that are difficult to use fixed weapons at close range. It also means that my ship will only have one slot left for weapons - which isn't worth bothering with. So I'll just double up on whatever tool ends up with the worst ammo.

Mined probably close to 10k asteroids with my Cutter since it was released. I concur with everyone else, for current mining it's great if a little sluggish to turn. Probably not as good as the Corvette/T10/T9 if you were to stack them all together but difference is negligible or can be written off for personal taste.

When 3.3 comes out I think the edge goes to the T9/T10 and Corvette for the new tools and weapon hardpoint placements. They'll be more user friendly seeing where exactly you are blasting.

Conda is more than viable both before/after the updates but I use my Conda for everything so I've omitted it our of sheer mindedness :p

I have both (T10 and Cutter), the T10 stops way easier and is less drifty.

Can you actually fly a T10 inside the space of a cracked 'roid?
That is my main concern since it looks like that's necessary to harvest the fragments exposed.

I've used a cutter for mineing but the type 10 is what I use now and prefer. Can't really say why its better other than plenty of hardpoihts but it just seems to be easier and it's got a much bigger field of view from the cockpit
