Who would sell their soul to actually live in the Elite Dangerous Universe (IRL)

If there was a way, Fairy godmother or HG Wells time machine, to get yourself to 3304 and live the way we all play this game, how many of you would actually do it.

Take into consideration that there is no respawns and once you die then thats it....

for me i would be off in a shot, having my own ship and bugging out to the god knows where for months on end......got to be better than what we are doing at the moment.

OFC we dont know what its going to be like in 3304 and if we will be flying about the galaxy in our own personal ships like we do today in our own cars, but use the imagination and lets assume it is like the game.

It's a bit like deciding what era in the past you would like to live in. Most of them are pretty grim when you take a detailed look and even worse if you don't get to choose what you do.

Yeah, why not, become a billionaire in a week, stock up on food and meds, live on a Cutter with your wife and kids on a secluded Earth like 20,000LY from populated space. Whats not to love about that?

Sure, but I don't want to be glued to my chair forever. Wife and kids? Forget it... we are alone on our Cutters. Our only company is Verity and an occasional telepresence-hologram if we are lucky. But we would probably be executed for false parking rather sooner than later.

Well, having today's level of societal development with species ending levels of technology bolted onto a shaky galactic civilisation would be a scary place.

Whatever you do, you are harming someone at some level. Those floating mats were at some time in the past someone else, every mission oppresses someone at some point. You have to compromise your ideals with Powers, while doing BGS work is using a systems population like a disposable tool.

ED is a game that teaches you that there is no co-existence in the end, and that to thrive someone else has to suffer for that. It wouldn't be fair or enlightened, just a choice of being strong or accepting weakness and living in fear.

So in essence you'd fit right in if you had sold your soul to get there...

My girl rides along in VR, she loves it. Don't have kids though thankfully.. Someday.

would it be Elite D like in open or in PG/solo?

In open probably not...... where station defences in hi sec systems sit picking their noses whilst people run amok etc.....

in the private group i play in where all members of the PF respect each other.... absolutely bloomingly lutely.

I would make slightly different life choices than my character does... but the simple fact is one can go from a sidewinder (equivalent of a small fishing boat) to an anaconda (an aircraft carrier) owning billionaire completely risk free if you are careful in a few hundred hrs!

for real life that would be my kind of lifestyle.

If we were within the Elite Universe we'd probably all just be telepresencing or playing more advanced VR games, ie the actual CQC or SLF piloting. So besides the better VR interface what would be the difference?

yes in a an instant, without thinking twice about it.
I doubt humanity will ever reach the conquest of the galaxy, chances are poor, very poor.
will give anything to travel around so many solar systems, have actually lands to discover

(when you say IRL OP, i assume we have space legs and space bars with space cookies)

Couldn't convince my wife... yet! Wait, your wife/girlfriend has her own set of VR gear?

But... she would still just be a hologram with her real body being trapped in her own Sidewinder forever if that world was real.

Hey... even our own fighter crew prefers to operate from somewhere inside the cargo bay and die with the ship rather than bearing our company on the bridge and sharing our escape capsule. Let's face it... elite pilots are lonesome individuals.

Hell no, not in the ED universe nor any other game universe.
And neither would anybody else (including OP) if they were ever actually confronted with such a choice.
Which of course nobody ever will.
