Who would sell their soul to actually live in the Elite Dangerous Universe (IRL)

Yeah, why not, become a billionaire in a week, stock up on food and meds, live on a Cutter with your wife and kids on a secluded Earth like 20,000LY from populated space. Whats not to love about that?

Forget the wife and kids, how about some tasty, scantly clad green chick, with cats ears, and a furry tail, and all her friends....

Yes, because I'd love to explore the galaxy, and the first thing I'd do is hack the FSS to make it work realistically and not have to manually perform the Hunt-the-Blue-Blob minigame. :D

To be honest I'm not sure I would want to live in a galaxy where the authorities would give me a fleet of highly lethal warships and let me do what I want with them. Oh that is just asking for trouble lol

Nah there are far better Sci Fi realitys that I would want to live in over ED’s. Too many humans in this one for a start. But if push came to shove only if I could have the ship shape of the original Imperial transport, (Frontiers) but it might need a better FSD and a fuel scoop.

You can't land on said ELW, though.

Seriously though... Remember. Loitering is punishable by death.

Interesting.....

Im not talking about all the restrictions of the game like not being able to get out of the chair, eat, drink, s**t and do all the other stuff. Im on about being in real life but in the ED universe. Read some of the books like the one Kate Russell wrote on the lore and put yourself into that universe.

Imagine putting yourself into cryo sleep and waking up in 2000 years time into a universe where you can buy a small ship and make your fortune out there.

That'll be 4018. About 700 odd years too far.

Yes a Porsche seems amazing compared to a Model T or a horse, but that doesn't mean we'll someday have cars that can go 5,000 mph. There are limits to how much things can be improved.

It's funny if someone said to me 30 years ago that I would be playing a computer game with people from all over the world on a computer that even by its standards are getting on a bit, and it sits down the side of my sofa and the phone on top of it is a 100 times more powerful than the pc I was using at the time. I would have laughed but then I then thought about it a bit longer and gone, yeah I can see that and it would be kind of cool.

Talking of phones, the one my best friends dad had at the time had a battery pack that he had to walk about with on a shoulder strap, also my dads VCR wasn't that mobile it was a huge camera and a portable vcr and a lot of leads, my first walkman although a huge breakthrough I could now take my tapes with me and listen to them, ok I had to turn it over when one side finished and the batteries didn't last that long.

My phone is an old Z3 from sony but it does all of the above in one small unit Im sitting here listening to a mix from Sister Bliss via the internet via a wireless connection things that I wouldn't have dreamed about when I was 18, not saying cars will ever go 5000 mph, but if humanity spent more time working as one than trying to kill each other just imagine how far we could go in the next 30 years. Crap I'll be knocking on 80 if I get that far and Im sure what we have now will seem like old hat.

Yes I do know there are rules and laws and physics is still physics but there will be someone born in the future who will work something out that makes us leave this rock and spread to the stars. Maybe not in the next 30 or even 300 years humaity even with all of its faults is forever moving forward. Personaly I dont think we will be here in 3304, the planet will be but not us :p

So... OP, what about just being born really wealthy? Being born into the ED world would likely be misery unless you were part of the .00000000001%.

Billions (trillions?) of inhabitants with middle-class incomes live decent lives in Federation, Empire and Alliance space. Interstellar commerce and mass production makes food and many consumer products affordable for the masses.

If you're poor or a slave in the Empire or live on a planet with a dictatorship then it's bad though. Basically similar to poor and oppressive countries on Earth.

Trapped in the dark void, Strapped to my chair, unable to land on atmospheric worlds and take a breath of air and feel the sunshine on my skin?
Sounds hellish.
No thank you.
