Expeimental effects?

More questions......

When I apply an experimental effect to an fsd is that it? can I add more or just the one?

And should I keep applying grade one upgrades until I have unlocked grade 5?

When is the best time to apply an experimental effect? if I apply it at the grade 5 stage will that be better than a grade one effect?

So confusing this engineers lark [where is it]

There are 3 things I can do to an fsd obviously the best is range increase but can I only apply one? or can I apply a shielded upgrade after the range increase?

Thanks.

Only one experimental, only one blueprint. Ships would be ridiculously overpowered if you could do more.

Doesn't matter when you do the experimental.

It would take you a huge number of G1 upgrades to unlock G5, sure you can but it's horribly inefficient.

Confused again?

I upgraded 6A fsd to grade 5 until it would not let me roll anymore with added mass experimental effect but I can only make a max jump of 25ly ?

How come? What am I missing?

I read that people are getting something like 50ly jumps

Ships a Anaconda BTW.

They'll also be trying to get as little Mass as they can across modules. You've got a powerful FSD but likely your ship is still quite heavy, the lighter it is the further it can jump.

Also bear in mind that ^A rated modules are best 'balanced' overall between mass and integrity. ^B rated modules are high mass but also high integrity (armoured). ^C rated is kind of medium balanced overall, but ^D rated are light weight (low Mass). You lose armour but if jump range is your thing, tends to be the explorer's rating of choice, right across the ship.

Did you first engineer it for jump range and then put on the mass manager experimental ?
Is your anaconda fitted out for total combat with loads of heavy modules ? The total ship weight has a big influence on your jump range

Ships fully kitted out with all the trimmings for near all round stuff so it probably heavy as a black hole.

Nothing else is upgraded either so that and weight would be the answer?

What do you recommend I upgrade next?

Upgrade your knowledge of engineering ;)

Lots of guides to how and what to engineer, especially for common ships like the 'conda.

Or use one of the online ship building websites to see what effect upgrades will have, before you spend a lot of time to not get what you want. coriolos.oi or edshipyard.com both good for trying out engineering.

It depends a bit on what you want to use the ship for?

In self defence (officer) I know you can lightweight missile racks but it's always a balancing act, under heavy fire my heatseekers eventually get knocked out. If you want the extended range for pure exploration you can even get away with not taking any weapons, or shields at all - if you dare - and though I'm not very into Anaconda myself, I suspect 50Ly ships are probably specialised for exploration and not much else.

So it depends what you want you to do but no harm in refining your build little by little over time either. With a 6A you've got a (good) middle ground FSD that hasn't quite decided on a role yet I think? o7
