Very disappointed about no Mamba or Phantom Black skins today :(

Now (?) that the "black friday" paint jobs are now called "midnight black" (I assume this is so as I seem to have pretty much all them, despite not having bought any of them... till now...) - they could put out midnight blacks for the Mamba and Phantom whenever they want ... ?

They certainly 'could'. ;)

Why would they think that? They can sell one Midnight Black paint for 2 bucks instead of 6 paints for 3 bucks. It would be way more profitable for them to sell the Black Friday paints.

They sell a solid black paint for 4 times the money of a multicolored paintjob.

Noone would otherwise buy the six paints you get in a pack; you generally buy then for one or two with the rest being unused. And since packs always share designs, it is almost no effort to make the variants. Let people buy tactical first, than black next year. It also helps give meaning to the black friday sale; look how impatient people were today to get the privilege of spending a couple bucks per ship per account to have a monotone black ship. :p People will be annoyed now, spend a bit more in the end and will be hyped next year.

"Thanks FD! I was scared for a bit there wouldn't be a black friday in 2019 but I have my mamba! It is all I wanted, thanks for listening to me!!!!!"

Black friday are the Horizons pre-order paints that came in one massive pack. Midnight black is the subsequent black friday sales. They are called differently so our pre-order bonus is still 'unique' AFAIK.

They should rush out some paintjobs that don't quite line up for the mamba and phantom. Always good for a laugh.

Not saying it's right, or wish it weren't different - as I'd like the Mamba/Phantom black friday paint now too - but every Black Friday paint sale FD has ever had only included the currently released ships, not the about the come ships.

Like when Dolphin/Beluga was about to come out, we had the BF sale just before those ships were released and no BF paints for them - and this very same topic came up.

Seems like it's a tradition - FD always puts up the paint on Friday (*UK local time) but people in paranoia always post about why isn't the sale on store on Wed/Thur. Then the inevitable why isn't BF paint for ship X about to come out not available posts.

Again, I'd really don't want to wait 52 weeks for the Mamba/Phantom BF paints either, but it's not like by this time I am surprised. And as others above said - economically, it allows FD a year to sell the standard paints for those ships which again by historical precedent WILL be immediately released (the vibrant and tactical usually day of or very shortly after new ships officially available in-game).

I have lots of complaints about where and how FD has developed certain aspects of the game, but how they have kept the game pay-to-win free yet allow for cosmetic purchases to support a non-subscription model isn't one of them.

Not bashing the OP but he's pretty far off track on the title to this thread - 'doesn't want money or can't get revenue streams right...'
1. FD clearly realizes they can maximize standard paint sales by NOT releasing the BF paint for a newly released ship till the next year - that seems pretty smart revenue stream planning even if I personally dont' want to wait 52 weeks either

2. Maybe not you, me, or some players, but a bunch of players who might have only got the BF paint if it was released now, will clearly buy 1 or more standard paints this year, and then pay for the BF paint next year. That doesn't sound like a company that doesn't want the OPs money either.

To repeat, I want the BF paint now too. But if you support the non-subscription model, then no surprise and seems pretty smart of FD to do the delay like they do every single year, every single new ship far as I can remember we've had since the intro of the BF paintjobs.

Yeah but now they're not called "black friday" paintjobs FD are free to sell them whenever they want. E.g. "To celebrate the release of 3.3 'midnight black' paintjobs for the mamba and phantom will be available at the store until next tuesday, for everyone. Except Aashenfox." ;)

*heh they could even be part of the free stuff for LEPers!

Come off it, we'll have the ships in one month and no black paintjobs for another 11. It surprises you that this would bother someone who wants his whole fleet black? Did you even see the thread I linked in the OP?

Try not be so sensationalist. It;s not like it's something 'they will add in future', it's already in beta.

There is no comparison between this and selling stuff that doesn't exist in a certain other franchise, but go on, make out as if we're crazy, if that floats your boat. :)

See above, naysayer :p

Because to make us wait 11 months is cruel and unusual? Especially when a thread was made a month ago and not one person said 'I'd rather wait til next year'?

so what if we didn't had any official beta, no complaints. there is no logic in your claim than not being patient :p. I head about christmas can I has my presents yet? As an arctic fox, you should know what patience is.

There's no way there's not going to be some "Black Mamba" variant paint job either at release or during the xmas countdowns. Ditto for the Phantom.

Wots ya problem wiv da red?? Evryone no’s dat de speedy stuff goes speedier ifs ya givs it some red stripes even a grot no’s dat stoopid. (Da blak is cool doe

I know patience, I have kids! I see what you're saying but sadly for them, they DID do a beta. So now it is cruel and unusual to make us wait til next year.

I'm annoyed with the producers of Game of Thrones too ya know, it's not personal. :)

Let's just say Henry Ford and I are on the same page...

Fair comment and clickbaity title is clickbaity. I was never debating what the current status quo is, I was trying to change it a month ago (see linked thread in OP and tell me that wasn't a well supported request).

I'm afraid it's simply because the black Friday skins are the coolest skins you can have besides legacy chrome and if fdev decided to drop those on launch with the ships then hundreds if not thousands of players are not gonna consider getting the tactical pack as a band aid for the next 52 weeks

Ships which aren't released yet? Not sure if that really needs to be a factor though.

At least it could be a pre-order.

TBH I think FD are consistently missing a huge revenue stream re paintjobs etc. I mean look at those Chris Foss "homage" paintjobs that Q' did a while back.

TO DIE FOR. I'd pay £10 for anyone of those.

Midnight skins are uninspiring to say the least anyway. The last cool black vehicle was this:

I'm personally waiting for the Red / yellow Predator pack and finish the WipEout / ED fusion.
