Not to sound ungrateful, but no love for LEP?

Frontier can seriously consider themselves lucky with their current fan base. Rarely have a witnessed people being so in credible "patient", defensive, naive and outright gullible as seen here. <snip bile bile bile>

Babelfisch was offering free hugs further ^^^ - seems you might want to take him up on the offer - you seem quite .... tense ;)

(Though do watch out, it might be hugs from scary clowns, I'm not sure if I really trust him...)

Or they just realise that the lifetime of the game isn't over yet and that they are currently working on the next major expansion.

heck, this topic started with "Hey FD, are we gonna get the free store stuff you mentioned earlier." and the answer from FD in this topic is "Yes.".

LOL@how that makes people upset.

FWIW I've worked in game dev studios ranging from under ten to over 300 people. Given the production speed of those various sizes of teams and projects, and the nature of this game, I think Elite production has been moving at quite a reasonable clip for 100 people. (I understand that's often not intuitive because from the outside it's quite normal to see games where it looks like production moves faster, but Elite is the kind of production where more work than usual is of the kind that is necessary but not very visible.)

If thats the case then i hope they double the team so we can have a big expansion every year and they can have the money.
Allthough i m not in the bussiness like you, i can compare other games and i think that other teams of that size deliver at a bigger rate. But i ll take your word on it.
Game is on development for 4 years now, so it doesnt really matter. One dlc every 2 years.. fine.

Or people just look at what they paid, how much entertainment they got out of that and go:"Neat!". And then you get another round of updates, with really cool stuff in it, without having to pay any additional money for it, and people are happy with their game. So people say:"Cool, the game is fun now, more stuff is coming, this is very nice."

I think you are trying to get a rise in this thread sleutelbos, and I don't really see why. You understand the issue and yet seem to be projecting paranoid assumptions.

While there may be people that hold the view you are assuming is held, I think here you are just being needlessly aggressive towards a clearly frustrated Frontier customer. This is not improving the situation, nor will it change anyones mind about anything other than their opinion of you.

Unfortunately that would be a FAR bigger risk than their current strategy, which is basically to keep the ED team around 100 folks while adding more and more IP to make the company less dependent on one game. Ignoring that number of devs doesnt scale linearly with output of DLC, they cant really hire another 100-200 dudes, get them integrated into the team, start the DLCs for 2022 and beyond only to discover that in 2022 noone really cares about space games any more and the Renaissance is the hottest thing in gaming.

In any other games the devs would have been burned on the staple for this but here we make funny jokes and belittle and ridicule fans who were stupid enough to trust the company. Amazing. We all just forget corporate lies, defend every move they pull and just keep rolling.
I definitely learned my lesson here and the LEP was the last thing I ever spend real money on for this company.

Frontier can probably shut don't the game and just keep on selling paintjobs. Enough folks would be content with that as long as the next update containes "SHIPS" and new "LIMITED TIME PAINTJOBS" Just go the starcitizen route. Yea thats the one other game where that was pulled of. Strange why is it always space games.

Yup, though we've also all heard the old adage that nine women can't make a baby in one month (and it increases risk for he studio, as sleutelbos mentioned). Maybe 18-month expansions (with chance of delays)? For now an optimistic scenario might be Horizons levels of production speed but without Horizons levels of accumulation of tech debt. Unfortunately Horizons production speed was slower than what players and FDev hoped for. On the bright side though, the more framework that goes in and becomes solid, the more that content for those frameworks can be cranked out easier (counterpoint: new content for existing mechanics often won't get people as excited as the anticipation of new game mechanics, but maybe it will; speaking for myself old-but-polished often beats new-but-thin.)

To be fair Frontier/Elite does get burned by the community for its games but to find that you really need to step outside of the FrontierDev forum echo chamber.

Thats not to say you wont find negative posts or threads here but they do tend to get shouted down which i suppose is the nature of an echo chamber

2) A LEP isn't an order, it is a gamble. You save money if you are lucky, you lose money if you are unlucky. You aren't entitled to a set number of premium DLCs. There are no solid promises. You will get whatever comes, and it may turn out to be a good deal or not.

Hmm, if Frontier are running a gambling business, they better contact the Gambling Commission.

Have Frontier ever described buying a LEP as a gamble?

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to jump in here and address a few points. First of all, thanks for you remaining considered and reasonable with your feedback, we're able to pass this information and sentiment on very quickly.

The Lifetime Expansion Pass holders are still set to receive something this year. Currently we don't have any more to say on that topic right now, but keep an eye on the usual channels as we'll have more for you very soon.

With regards to what's coming next, we aren't ready to talk about it in any detail, and we're still hard at work on Beyond - Chapter Four, but as previously mentioned here by Zac, "A while ago, our development went from pre-production into full production on our next major milestone of Elite development." We'll let you know when we're ready to start talking about further details, and to echo what's said above, you'll be able to find more information on our social channels and here on this forum, but please continue to be patient while we work hard on releasing Chapter Four.

Your continued support is really important to us, and we're extremely grateful for the time you've been on this journey with us (can you believe it's been more than four years!) It's really cool to see the same names time and time again in the forums, on the livestreams and engaging with us on social media... it makes doing our jobs an absolute pleasure!

Cheers!

Ed

It's amazing how FDev learned to write alot but say nothing at all. I'm no longer listening to community manger posts. Since FDev is not ready to share any information and do a strict no-transparency policy I am now looking at the market values, which don't seem to be that good for FDev (though this is a representation of ALL its published titles, investments, choices, statements and barely says anything about Elite in particular). After Chapter four we have zero information about what's coming next. It's a void. No dev updates, sneak peeks, anything. What follows is a void and a whole community drifting through nothing will eventually result in a giant chaos and social meteor-storm. For me I can say that my trust is frozen at the moment and I am not ready to spend any cent despite actually looking at some skins, etc.

I'm not asking for anything now, nor am I expecting anything. I don't care. Just do your thing and please just don't screw it up all over again. If you consider changing your way you treat your community by silencing them and not talking to them, cool, whatever, but pelase don't screw it up again.

I don't understand this LEP thing, why do you guys want Frontier to take developers away from making free content and put them on making paid content. At this rate, Frontier are gonna develop something and just say, stuff it, this was originally gonna be free but lets just throw a price tag on it and call it premium content.

All this talk of premium content and even after chapter 4 the game is still gonna need another year out to make core gameplay improvements. exploration and mining is done (arguably). But what about trading, piracy, stealth, smuggling, missions, salvaging, crime and punishment and all that. We are no where near premium content.

Beyond is "free" because it adresses core gameplay that should heve been in the game when Elite was released in 2014. 4 years now, but they decided to charge for a dlc that was meant to atract consoles.
So Beyond ITS NOT FREE. We all paid for it, in 2014.

Core gameplay updates are free for non-Horizons owners too.

No, the Newspaper isn't free either because they expect you to buy something that is shown in the adverts.

They may expect you to, but you do not need to have made a previous purchase to have a free product. The distinction is quite clear.

Core gameplay updates are free for non-Horizons owners too.

Who still had to buy a product to receive the updates at no additional cost.

You are right that there was no new information in this post from Ed. It would have been a pleasant surprise if there was, but mostly just a surprise - we are not expecting new information just yet.

What it did say with rather more diplomatically chosen words than your own post, is that Fdev are aware that this is a contentious issue and that it is not being overlooked or brushed under the rug. This is all good. Come January, hopefully we will know more.

To be fair to Frontier ever since the beginning they've operated the same silent until they have something to announce routine.

You can criticize them for that approach but it's nothing new.
