Switching out weapons.

I would like to be able to carry other types of weapons on my limited hard point ship. I would sacrifice a small cargo rack and weight to carry pulse or beam lasers or mine launchers on my T6 mining ship. There are only two hard points and I need those for mining lasers but totally useless for any form of protection should the need arise unless I could somehow ram and pin an attacking ship up against an asteroid and let the mining lasers do their job. Is that even possible? We could carry the weapons in a cargo rack or weapons rack and then be able to switch them out if needed on the fly instead of going back to your home base and drag them out of storage to swap out. By then it's too late. Ships limited to 3 or less hard points. Of course you'd have to ensure ahead of time that your power plant will support them and then make a quick fire group change on the right screen. It's not an ideal situation but it's better than nothing. Probably could set it up in voice attack.

Get a Cobra Mk4, you will lose a bit of cargo space and gain the ability to defend yourself. If you demand max cargo space at that price level, deal with the trade-offs.

Remove fittings limitations would ruin this game.

I don't think weapon swapping in space fits within the games outfitting system.

However, according to the outfitting animation, weapons disappear from inside the ship, and are replaced with new ones. From inside. Lol

So technically you could carry a sort of "Outfitting Module" to swap weapons, but you'd need quite a large cargo hold to store them (because some weapons are massive). And you can't drop them, because they don't fit out of the cargo hatch.
I suppose you could jettison the old hardpoints in to space, and lose them forever, then replace them with the ones in your hold...

I dunno. Probably easier to just dock. Lol

I can't own a Cobra MkIV. Horizons Early Adopters only. Believe me, if I could get one I'd already have one. My trade off would be replacing the T6 with a Keelback which isn't a bad one. I'd lose some cargo space but gain additional hard points. The downside is a Keelback is 3 times the price or there abouts as the T6. I only suggested this to make the T6 slightly more usable as a mining ship. Being able to swap out the mining lasers for combat weapons of the same size might help its ability to fend off smaller pirate ships. Large, well armed pirate ships,,, naaa. Mostly I'll be relying on just boost speed to hopefully get me out of harms way until the FSD can get me clear and the shields and hull hold out.

Yeah but by the time I get back to the home station the need won't be there anymore... assuming I can get back and hopefully with a full or near full hold of stuff to sell. Maybe a better suggestion is a dual use mining laser that can be switched to beam laser capability with a few points lower DPS that can be engineered later on to up the oompf.
