General / Off-Topic Sci Fi ship names

Noticed a bunch of Culture Series references in a HazRes recently, NPC ship names like "Dra'azon", "Diziet Embless Sma", etc. I get a little giggle out of it. Does anyone else notice similar?

There are several ships named the Nostromo and Event Horizon too. Surprisingly I have not seen a single C-57D. I prefer Rock-n-Roll, my favorite Anaconda's name is Voodoo Child.

Yes, I've noticed that. My own preference is for older British SF names. Anastasia (Dan Dare's ship),XL5 (fireball), The Fireman & Bucket (The pub that Sir Terry's city guard used to drink in before they used the "Mended Drum". Although I have called my 'Conda The Half Groat" for some reason (A fourpenny one, perhaps).

Most of us Culture fans tend to reference the lack of sufficient gravitas in the game, eg my own ship "Gravitas Lost". There's a commander on this very forum, iirc called MistakeNot (ref Hydrogen Sonata)...

I could call a ship Misty Mountain Hop or Stairway to Heaven...... also Hendrix totally rules; what a genius.
