Upcoming HOTAS

Alas i dont have any info, but does anyone have anything news on upcoming HOTAS it seems with ED and SC there will be a influx of new players wanting something a little more than the X52 and a little less than the Warthog....

(The X55 doesnt count as it been nothing but trouble at least for me so its been sent back and i am back to my old X52 which is just about staying together with hockey tape)

And do you believe that another mass-product won't have similar issues as X55? What makes you think it will be much different in this terms?

no news as far as i know, but after hotas "implementation" that SC did i don't follow that crap anymore.

probably there will be x55 pro, but maybe no, i had bad experience with x55 as well, throttle is great but stick is crappy.

i would buy warthog but it has no twitch and without twitch you can't play (pedals i use for strafe). :)

Go for another X55.:p The last batch is much better than the one you had.

X52, X55, X65F or TM Hotas Cougar. Afaik those are pretty much the only viable options outside of a Warthog. Haven't heard of any other Hotas's on the horizon at the moment.

More than the X52 and less than the Warthog already exists. The CH Fighterstick and Pro Throttle has just about the highest avg reviews online and they build products that last a super long time. I swear by them.

It has enough 4-way and 8-way hatswitches to keep your hands on all the time. The mouse stick on the throttle is excellent as well. It doesn't have a twist action but I actually map the yaw axis to one of the hat switches on the throttle and it works out perfectly in combat.

Here is a great youtube link comparing the CH HOTAS with the X52
Keep in mind he is using a 10 year old Stick (pre usb). Just shows how long they last.

Have been using an X 52 pro for the last couple of months. No issues, works a treat, but not really heavy use. None of these things will last forever. Some will break quickly, some will last for years. My advice is whatever you get, get it from somewhere you are confident will replace it if it breaks.

I've had my x52 throttle for a very long time and love it. The joystick, however, is junk. I threw it out and use a warthog joystick with the x52. The only bad thing I can say about the x52 throttle is that the "eraser" type mouse pointer doesn't work very well in most games.

Sorry but what do you mean exactly by this? I have the TM Warthog & have no issues whatsoever with ED in general piloting or dogfighting...

Using Saitek Combat pedals for yaw and had the mouse nipple on the throttle configured for this beforehand. Have thrust forward and back on the right and left toe brakes respectively for slow manouvering & FAOFF control.

The warthog is less expensive than many of the reviews suggest... only £250 from box.co.uk. It is easier to mount on a chair, can be modded with a stick extension to make it even more accurate, and has outstanding build quality. For the extra £60 over over the plastic x55, it's not a bad choice. Remember: buy cheap, buy twice.

The lack of twist throttle is a drawback, but its not a deal breaker. The slew control nipple on the throttle does an OK job if you don't have pedals.

x-55

I have an X-55, I'm not sure what batch it was from, though I have never had a problem with it. I am currently playing ED, Arma3, Xplane with it and it's great!

I'm not really sure why it has such a bad rep in this community?

Maybe I have just been really lucky to get one that works :D

CH products have been known to last for a long time. The link i posted on page one had a review and the comparison was to a 15 year old CH joystick. with no noticeable drop in quality. Believe it or not, things can be built to last.

But that is not the biggest problem with the X52. What I find strange is what to do with the wheels on the throttle. I would much rather they put hat switches instead of useless wheels.

I was a CH jock in the 90's, eventually sold my stick and throttle not because they stopped working but because they stopped making flight sims in the 2000's. ED has brought me back, and after looking at what was out there I went right back to CH Products. Pulling them out of the box I couldn't tell any difference from the originals. Same dull black plastic and gray buttons, but same solid feel and performance.

I will say that it has the same configuration, too, which is bad and good. The management software looks and behaves straight out of '96, but at the same time you can configure the stick and throttle (or any other accessory) EXACTLY how you want it, including making macros for each switch. I expect to get another 10 years out of 'em.

Basically CH Products are the Millennium Falcon of the HOTAS world. "She may not look like much but she's got it where it counts, kid."

I was wondering the same thing. I also use the Warthog with Saitek Pro Pedals for yaw, without any problems. :S

Happy WH owner here as well :) By the way who stopped making flight sims in the 2000? Oleg Maddox and Eagle Dynamics might have something to say about that :D Also there is the Russian made Black Mamba stick available but it is rather hard to get hold of.
