Hellblade:Senua's Sacrifice, or Horizon: Zero Dawn. Or Both?

I bought a PS4 Pro for RDR2.

Finished it. Finished "The Last of Us". Am playing and enjoying the last two Assassins Creed games.

Now I'm looking at either Hellblade:Senua's Sacrifice, or Horizon: Zero Dawn.

The former looks linear and story driven, like "The Last of Us", while the latter looks more open world RPG driven, kind of like RDR2 or AC:Odyssey.

Any thoughts?

Did anyone not like these games? What were your reasons?

If you buy Horizon: Zero Dawn make sure you buy the completed edition as it includes the Frozen Wilds expansion.

Yeah, that's the one I'm looking at. Pretty inexpensive. I think it's like $20 in the PS Store

Hellblade is a great story-driven game, likes of which we desperately need more of IMO. No empty pointless open worlds, no gimmicks. Just a good linear level design, and a fantastic story to experience.
I've not played HZD, since I'm not a console player. I've heard great things about it. However, it just looks like Far Cry with mechanical dinosaurs to me. Which might be a great thing too, because frankly those mechanical animals and overall aesthetics of the game look amazing.

It's such a toss-up. I was also thinking about getting away from the fantasy/antiquity thing, and have been eyeballing Assassin's Creed: Syndicate. The reviews are great on that one, and Victorian London sounds like a fun assassin's playground.

And here's the thing. With Hellblade, I almost feel like I could just as easily watch a no-commentary playthrough on Youtube and save myself $30 for the same experience.

You probably could get away with playthrough. Although, playing it was one of the best and most emotional gaming experiences I've ever had. Not sure I could get into it as much if I'd just watch somebody play it.
I would say - if you are not sure just wait for sale. Hellblade is half the price of typical AAA games to begin with. I'm sure consoles get sales too....right? :D

Playing hellblade now, on pc in VR. So far it’s pretty interesting though I’ve found I need to remove the headset from time to time on account of nausea. Combat is basic but pretty. Feels more like a break from the story for the sake of entertainment than anything else. I haven’t finished it yet, but so far so good. Linear storytelling with OK fights and simple puzzles. I can recommend but don’t rave over as much as some reviews have.

Thanks, Ozram. I went with Horizons, and will pick up Hellblade some other time when I'm looking for something fresh to play.

I do admit I liked The Last of Us, but I prefer open world to linearity.

I found the combat in Horizon to be lacklustre and the dialogue really stilted.

I never finished it, and don't get why the reviews were so positive.

Bit late though!

Hellblade has the best interpretation of the Goddess Hel I've seen so far in media. Worth it just for the performance of the main character actress. Combat is OK.

"I did not like Hellblade. It's beautiful, atmosphere level is excellent, but in my opinion it's not enough to make a good video game.
I find it really very repetitive, the fights are boring, even if very well animated.
This opinion is binding only me. I perfectly understand that we can like a game like this."

Agree. Wonderful story but the combat is really just a mechanic to further that story and little else. Its a nice solid 8 to 10 hours of some superb story delivery. Very beautiful also.

A marvellous achievement considering the size of the team that made it.

Bought them both. I can certainly see how watching Hellblade isn't the same as playing it.

Enjoying Zero Dawn, too, even if it's a little "Hunger Gamesish".
