Distant Worlds II Event DW2 PS Edition

Hello,

Bit of a casual gamer here, but have been a huge fan of Elite since the heady days of BBC B's and the Toshiba MSX that I played it most on. I even still have the original game manual with the scary wee short story in it! I've been playing Dangerous on and off since it came out on the PS4 and have done a few short trips. The longest I think was around 3000ly, so I'm not sure what I've let myself in for by signing up to this little jaunt. I'm piloting a Diamondback Explorer at the moment with a max jump of 41ly, a fairly good powerplant and the best fuel scoop I can find (75t/s).

How does the mechanics of this event work? Will we all be able to communicate during the game, or is it more of a 'role play' thing, in that although we're all going together, we won't actually see each other or be able to interact, other than through message boards? I always play in OPEN mode, but to be honest, I wouldn't know a computer generated ship from another player. What happens to ships that might struggle to keep up? I reckon The Beagle's got a fairly average jump distance, but gaming wise I'd probably struggle to squeeze more than a couple of evenings a week into the effort, so I think fairly early on, I'm going to start lagging behind! Even so, I'm quite excited at the prospect of doing this, even if I'm just following the jump wakes of the rest of the flotilla.

Sorry if these seems like silly questions, but I tend to just go for single player games, probably Battlefront 2 is the closest I've come to proper 'online' gaming, so although I feel like I'm a reasonable experienced pilot in ED, I'm a complete novice when it comes to proper online gaming

Hi Beagleboy!
There’s a lot here and the others answer most of your questions well. As the PS4 leader of DW2 I can confirm that a 41ly DBX will be perfect! The spaces between the WPs will be around 4500ly, which should be achievable unless you’re severely time limited.

Don’t worry about lagging behind, expeditions always string out and the bigger they are the more strung out they get. Someone will always be around if you want company.

The in-game tools (wings, text and voice comms) will support that interaction. In addition there is a community and a PSN chat group. You can also use a PS party for voice and Discord is essential. We will help where you’re unfamiliar! Send me a PSN friend request and I’ll set you up with the chat and Private Group.

Basically, we’ve got you covered and I’m really looking forward to seeing you out there! o7

Hello everyone,

I'm really new to the game and new to exploration. But i would like to participate, it seems a really nice expedition.

I've read the posts in the general thread and here but I'm a bit confused.
Her my questions, please consider that i'm new.
1- how do I subscribe? Do I subscribe as the pc players? And then? Do I receive the mission in the game?
2- I can afford just a cobra 3 at the momebt and i can equip it to have a 21-22 jump range. Would be enough?
3- when and where we start? Pallaeni system is the starting point? And then? We go to beagle point?
4- for ps4 players are there any way to track the jurney? I saw that with edsm and the API-KEY it can be done for pc. But for ps4?

Thanks in advance guys!

Hi!

1. There is a main thread where you can go and sign up. All platforms sign up the same way and in the same place. Sign up is not compulsory, though, you can just tag along.
2. 21-22 light years will not be enough to get all the way to Beagle Point but you should be able to make it to most waypoints.
3. The "when" has not been finalised yet. Soon after the Q4 release. Need to check the start point = yep, Pallaeni.
4. No EDSM tracking or equivalent on PS4 unfortunately. There might be a manual way to upload progress but nothing automatic.

* DW2 Sign-up thread - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...Distant-Worlds-II-Fleet-Roster-Sign-Up-Thread
* There's no "mission", btw, it's a player organised event. There are roles you can adopt and you'll find more information about those linked from the main thread.

Do we have any idea when the roadmap will be out and the start date confirmed? Want to have a look at the planned timescale and if I can commit to it before I sign up

PS4 Sign-Up Update

CMDRs! We’re into December and the expedition launch will be upon us before you know it!

More and more of you are expressing an interest and that is wonderful and you’re all welcome!

There is a PS Community and two PS message groups available for you all on the platform but in order to access those, and other key channels, you will need to follow this process:

1. Sign up to the official roster here - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...Distant-Worlds-II-Fleet-Roster-Sign-Up-Thread.
2. Send me a friend request on PSN mentioning;
  • Your roster No.;
  • If you would like to be left off the message group (you will be added by default); and
  • If you would like to be added to the PSN Community.
You will be invited to join the PG by default. Note that you do not have to join it. You are welcome to experience DW2 in Open, Solo, or in your own private groups if you wish.

Anyone wishing to be part of a DW2 PS Message group will need to ensure you have your privacy setting set to allow messages from people not on your friends list.

Please note that if you do not appear on the roster you will not be considered a participant in the expedition and will not be granted access to the available facilities

My PSN ID is Allcrowsareblack, as it is here and in Discord (#1653). Please feel free to contact me in whichever way works best for you if you have any questions.

I’m really looking forward to sharing this experience with you all! See you soon! o7

Currently it is not possible to have more thank 2 SRVs out in any given instance. Three or more induces a blue-screen crash. It’s been an issue since February this year. We are hopeful it will be resolved with 3.3 but that has not yet been confirmed
Last time I tested it with more than 2 SRVs it worked for me (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...still-broken?p=6965978&viewfull=1#post6965978) but not for others. Didn't have the chance to test it since then.

Community request

Good morning. I just sent my community request through PSN communities for DW2. I forgot to add my roster spot to the request. Roster 5412, CMDR jovi_1981. Looking forward to this event!
