Rookie mistakes

sometimes its more manly to go out in a sea of flames.

i died aswell, but i didnt feel like running hehe.

I did Conch 3 times before this, but this is when everyone left me in alone with the rotters, and they where like bees round a honey pot, i wanted to jump as i was wanted and did not want to go back to the naughty boys station to have the same ole lecture about being a goody two shoes in the Universe AGAIN! :) :)

Stacked a load of passenger missions to Sol's True Northern Star, some 1000ly directly up.

Got about 950ly and realised I couldn't get my passenger Python any closer.

I spent a few minutes hopping around trying to get closer. Then gave up and headed home and abandoned the missions.

Then remembered about FSD boost synthesis.

Well hit me up when you are running out of funds, ive got a nice spot to make some credits.

I too, on more than one occasion, have forgotten to request docking clearance, drifted leasurely through the letter-rack / toast-box, and set all the alarms blaring. Then, realising my mistake, attempted to spin my anaconda round at 10% speed and no pips to engines! Shouting "MOVE!" At the screen like none of this is my fault.

The game is bugged itellya!

When I do this, one of many things will happen;
1) I'll attempt a boost 180 flip, and slam the side of the station because I'm in an Anaconda. Then get shot.
2) Do a 180, and attempt to boost, but have my landing gear down. I usually survive this one.
3) Go in to panic mode and deploy my cargo hatch, weapons, and open the galaxy map, which decided to take 7 hours to open, and somehow pledge to PowerPlay and change my holo-me's gender.
4) Attempt to casually reverse out, and get stuck.

Most of these things aren't mutually exclusive, you know.

After mining in Asp for some while, I bought a shiny new Python, thinking "I am invincible!!"

4 rebuys later I was faced with a couple of uninsured runs, to earn back enough for even one rebuy. Noob.

Did you take a pic? The 'conda's damage modelling should have looked amazing!

The checklist went something like this...
1: Demonstrate command of multilingual invective at increasing volume levels while fighting with the controls to get it landed.
2: Draw breath and pop up station services to look at the repair bill.
3: Wince and click it.
4: Think "Damn, I should have screenied that.... "

So, sadly, no.

I recently changed my key bindings so I wasn't playing keyboard "twister" so much during combat. As I hit the old hot key for "target next system in route", in the heat of battle, in a panic, losing precious seconds and finally blinking in confusion as I face the rebuy screen, I realized how hard it is to forget/relearn muscle memory. And its not like I didnt practice first; there's just something different about having a CMDR committed to your destruction that changes the mental dynamic in some way.

I had a fuel cat moment: friend on discord needs some fuel (Not an emergency, he has a ton or two left, not enough to leave the nonscoopable he's in)
He's about a thousand light years out, I tell him: No problem, hang tight, I'll put fuel limpets on my asp and roll his way. We'll talk on discord with him off the game during the trip... Shoot the breeze.

I arrive at the system with that green friend icon and I ask him to log back in. And he's like, "Hey Lance, you're a thousand light years away, you went in a wrong direction." I blink, I was aiming for the wrong friend on the galmap.

"Oh well, guess I'll fly two thousand light years instead of one to rescue you, be right there." had a laugh.

And a classic mining mistake: I build a new mining ship and end up firing hatchbreakers at an asteroid.

Today I actually bought an FSD Interdictor for an assassination mission (like they tell you to), as I could see the target flying around and thought: maybe I actually need to interdict this one ?

.. and when I fly back out I realise they are also trying in interdict me - after a while chasing each other in circles I realised this, slowed down and let then 'catch me'. Now I can sell in interdictor again ;)

Yeah, I seem to recall it takes daily practice over (at least) several weeks, maybe months...

Set off from Jaques in Colonia in my Anaconda in the 3.3 beta to test the new FSS mechanics, only to remember after a couple of jumps that I'd left the 7A fuel scoop at Jaques.

Luckily it was 1) the beta, and 2) Had enough fuel to jump back anyway.

Thinking that lightly engineered T9 on alt account can tank two Anacondas (missions spawned) the same way like heavily engineered T9 on main account :) ... it didn't worked :D

I have a streak of forgetting to get docking clearance before entering the airlock at the moment.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who regularly finds his mind on other things as I blast thru the mail slot, only to get that rude buzzing to alert me that, yes once again, I've neglected to get that requisite permission!"

As they say in the Navy SEALs (and other organizations/activities where training is critical and muscle memory must be constantly sharpened because it's highly perishable, with a short half-life), "In the heat of combat, people don't 'rise to the occasion', they fall to their level of training." ;-)
