Oh, the humanity!

FDev, with the release of chapter 4: "Here you go, Commanders! Finding HGE and their G5 mats will never be as easy as it is right now! And to incent you to go hunting HGEs, we've dropped two more novel ships for you!"

Also FDev: "And, oh, by the way, we've wiped all the system states, so that HGEs you want the most aren't going to spawn in any real numbers until we get some BGS ticks under our belt. Suckahs! Muuuuuuahahahaha <cough>"

:D

Yep, I felt the "no system state" frustration when I finally got in last night - I was really looking forward to continuing with the new conflict zones, thargoid or otherwise.

Searching for HGEs to get G5 mats is so.....2014ish

Admittedly, I normally maintain pretty high stock levels just from flying around and slurping up USS's as I come across them, supplementing that with high-level, large-hull bounty hunting. But sometimes that's just not enough to satisfying my compulsive engineering jones! :)

In Beta uninhabited systems had a good chance of having lots of HGEs appear - obviously independent of state, so you can't necessarily get a specific HGE type, but no shortage of them in general. I haven't had chance to see if that still works in live yet.

High grade emissions, a certain type of USS that spawns rare engineering materials.

They are not that crucial anymore since we now have material traders and crashed Anacondas/Dav's Hope etc.

Neither Dav's Hope (which has no G5s) nor the crashed anacondas (which only give G5 raw, and not technetium or Yttrium) are good sources for what you can find in HGEs.

It's precisely because of material traders that HGEs are the best source of ALL manufactured G5 materials. Now that they can be located in an instant, their advantage is even more tangible.

One thing that will be interesting is what they contain now that a system can have 3 states, e.g. in a Fed system that is in boom (CDCs, proto heat radiators, proto radiolic alloys, proprietary composites), civil war (military supercapacitors, military grade alloys) and outbreak (Pharmaceutical Isolators), what will they contain? If you're farming for only one of those, RNG could really screw you.
