Anyone notice rocks are gone from ice planets?

The last three I’ve landed on have been rock free besides shootable rocks. Anyone else noticing this? It’s not really a bad thing, it actually makes it a little easier to drive.

I did notice an ice planet is much easier to drive on now, but didn't quite notice that it's because of lack of rocks :)

Maybe it's a remnant of the planned and delayed ice planet changes? The surface was supposed to look like transparent ice so it would make sense to remove rocks from it.

They need to get rid of rocks on planets in general. I know "science" and all that but it only serves the purpose of something to make SRV driving "dangerous" (when it's actually just tedious).
That's a bad thing as it shows SRV related gameplay is rather bland/boring if you add an exclusive mechanic to something that antagonises the logic already placed in the game. (Hitting objects with shields = 0% Damage to Hull, except when in SRV because we said so)

Did it make much difference to pomeche times in beta?

Not enough that I'm worried about the 3.3 times having an unfair advantage that would require a new scoreboard, it's more just a cosmetic issue that the planet surfaces don't look as cool without the rocks. I do wonder if FD consider this a bug fix. Any geologists out there know ... is it wrong for the surfaces of ice planets to be covered in surface scatter rocks?

I disagree. It's only tedious if you don't learn to control your vehicle, in my mind driving would be a lot more tedious without them.

Maybe they got rid of the rocks in preparation for the ice planet surface geography overhaul and forgot to put them back in after they pushed it back.

Perhaps they’re just covered in ice?

In all seriousness though, all the “shootable” rocks with the exception of Outcrops are types of meteorites, so it actually would make sense that native rocks would be iced over, while meteorite may not have been there long enough to have been absorbed into the environment.

I felt like rocks on ice planets had weird hitboxes compared to the rocks on rocky planets. Hitting some rocks on an ice planet and getting stopped dead flat as if you hit a brick wall, when if you hit the same type of rock on a rocky planet the SRV drives right over it with only a bump felt.

I don't know if they were intended to be removed, but I won't shed a tear for them if they don't return.

Dear god no!
He has a point though, getting the SRV stuck in objects is very tedious. It is made even worse by the rear wheel steering.

If you had played some of the better racing games over the last years, you probably would not have posted that.

Indeed it is tedious.

Any gameplay involving the SRV is just mindless drivel.
