I have an Anaconda with 160 cargo, you know just building up metals like osmium and so on for the engineers that require it to produce stuff. I keep being interdicted because cargo. So I wanted to buy another ship, a cobra. But can't because I have to sell all my anaconda cargo first. But I want to keep it to use. Anyway, so I figured I'd buy a cargo ship, type -6 transporte to store the stuff and then empty the Anaconda. No can do because the default max cargo for the type-6 still isn't enough to store the cargo there. So I have to stay in the anaconda, with the cargo and keep being interdicted because: cargo.

Yes, you wouldn't be able to 'store' the cargo on a ship in the shipyard either. Cargo cannot be squirreled away like that. You will have to deal with your cargo before buying another ship, you cargo would just end up transferred to your new ship anyway.
The only cargo an Engineer may require would be for the 'introduction' pay off. I'm not sure which Engineer you want to bring Osmium to, but you should be able to drop off what you have, as a partial delivery, and return later when you have the remainder.

Yes, it's called piracy... You can't store cargo. If you have an invitation from an engineer, you can drop the stuff one at a time. If you don't have the invitation most of that stuff is easy to come by so wait until you do.
Your issue is that you think any of the Enginners need Osium for anything.
If your looking to unlock some engineeers some of them need stuff you fit in your cargo hold. But none of them require it for any upgrade.
Off the dome, Painite and Bromilite are the only things you will need to specifically mine for to unlock an engineer.

And no one from Frontier has ever stepped up to support this position, because once the beer wore off they realized how ridiculous this actually sounded. Much like saying "Don't spit in the ocean, you'll flood India."

Actually you can just dump the cargo in the station.
Quick, over simplified, answer. Buy 10 T-9s (yes, lots of people could); slowly fill each with PP merits, platinum, whatever. Ship all full ships to target system. Wait for relevant PP/BGS tick. Mass dump to affect PP or local market.
Honestly the main issue I can see it causing if you could just park a T9 full of cargo anywhere then go and get another one is one of stockpiling. When UA bombing was still a thing, imagine being able to store dozens of ships full of thargoid sensors and just leave them parked, then when you want to unleash whatever chaos you have in mind, just hop into your nice innocent risk-free low-rebuy taxi jumper, fly off to wherever you wanted to dump stuff, transfer your payload and dump it.
And how does one fill 10 T9’s?
You can't - reread the post I was responding to - he wanted to know why cargo simply can't be left in a ship (when stored) when switching to another ship.

Indeed, I remember hauling vast amounts of osmium out of the ring that's a few light seconds from Jaques station during the CG to repair it when it first arrived in what is now Colonia. Additionally, although outfitting in Colonia is generally a couple of levels below bubble standards, the station offers one of the finest selections of mining gear in the galaxy so you can fly out there in anything, store your gear and equip for mining and then pick up 10 osmium in about 10 minutes.
Soooo...what we get instead is being held hostage in our ship until we unload the cargo. Instead of recognizing that players lack sufficient answers to such "bombing" and maybe designing a more interactive universe, they went with this.
Seems like every obnoxious design choice in this game is borne of terrible excuses...
Held hostage? Just sell the damn stuff. You can always get more. With the way mission rewards have changed and you no longer have to worry about being paid in 4t of junk (or worse, trying to build up 25t of modular terminals 4t at a time) there's almost no need to stockpile anything any more. The absolute worst one is Bill Turner and his bromellite but even without the new mining system that was just a case of taking a mining ship with 50t of cargo space and hitting up an icy ring.
I wish that were possible. An awesome tactic to build a fleet and have an impact on the game. The only issue would be that it has not risk. Perhaps a certain % chance that some ships could be pirated on the way and a % of cargo would be lost. Or even better your ships all travel in real time through the game world as a fleet that can be attacked by players
Or you know, they could make it like the module storage minus the "teleporting" to another location.
Regarding engineers would probably 50t already be more than enough to keep materials for a few recipes around.
Unless the recipes got changed and use no cargo materials anymore, haven't played in over a year...
