Really, people are tagging first discovered just by honking!

Something feels really wrong about one facet of the new fss god mode. You get the tags for first discovered now just by honking. That feels way too easy, and kinda goes against any sort of value in tagging a body in the first place. Its trivialized. Im guessing theres a few or more of us who actually place some worth in tagging and discovering...

Ive just had a chance to come back to elite since last week, and noticed a sub optimal observation.. a few systems i had book marked to tag were still completely untouched.. except for the star. So obviously someone had come though, honked and tagged, possibly without even looking at the system map. What about the people who care?

Also, if any suggestions of the bubble being tagged up are a complete lie, there are tonnes of systems still completely untouched. You just have to know where to look and what to look for. Happy hunting.

Yeah i dislike god mode. The old ads showed you stuff. There was nothing material gained. This reward structure of the new exploration is certainly out of balance considering everything else in elite.

GAHHHHH it just happened again. Flew out to a pristine system at the other end of the bubble.. when i arrived the star was tagged. In the matter of a few hours since discovery.

I dont think its about me being ocd or not, its just dumb how people who don't care and without even trying can achieve meaningful permanent goals in the sandbox.

Would have been better if frontier sold naming rights to be honest.

FDev stated that nothing was getting found so something had to be done to make it easier.

I really doubt filling up database entries is game goal for elite.

It's not the honking that causes the first discoveries, it's the scanning. But you automatically scan the main star when you enter the system.

I see nothing wrong with that to be honest. You still have the rest of the system to tag.

While I get what you are saying, if someone honked it, they did 'discover' it by the strictest sense of the world, as in "there is 'something' over there but i'm not going to examine it"

Now if or if that is correct, is tricky, but there is definitely an argument to be had that it would lead people to simply try to honk as much as possible to get that tag, which is simply what many people want, making the tag itself just a glorified "x was here"

Which really shouldn't be the case, maybe they should be able to get the discovery on the stars, but not planets?

I quite like it - I always liked seeing other explorer's tags on things as I went along, especially when in the middle of nowhere. You might follow the trail of their expedition for a few jumps, then diverge again.

But ... previously they had to be travelling slow enough to have stopped to tag something. Now those trails will be easier to see - and conversely, it'll be easier to tell if you're in somewhere genuinely untravelled or if the previous visitors were just in a hurry.

I'm not an explorer, got Elite doing Pax Missions. Since the 3.3 drop I've earned millions just testing the system from my home system to Shinrarta and there about. Easy money, I'm not refusing it. That and the combat. is now a joke (NPCs killing themselves by ramming)

I <3 credits :D

Relax. It’s a game and it will all just be a dream when the servers unplugged.

"Its a game" yup, it is, definitely.

However the people that run around and do the honk only to get discovery tags are the one's not looking at it like a game, and more like "Hey I can put my tag here easily", then when someone comes along that actually 'explores' the system, you know, the way the game seems to intend towards it, then this issue / bug does does not reward the actual explorer, just the guy rushing through to 'tag' it?

What bug and what issue is that? Some dude discovered the star and got their tag on it during their travel. Why should they be denied that? Did they not fly there and discover it?

Hmmm. Well notice nothing in my life, or game, have changed because of it.
That’s fine if you care, really it is, I believe folks should enjoy themselves in a game.
Just speaking for myself when I say it’s a non-issue for me.
And based on some of the Cmdr names I wish I could toggle them off anyway.

I said it earlier and repeat myself:
"You cannot patch people."

That's bad news. I was hoping for a patch to stop people repeating themselves!

The way I see it, first mapped is similar to the old way (but you have to shoot probes) and first discovered means you can catch everything before choosing to first map a more lucrative body. :)

This is why we now have "first mapped by". There's nothing clever about just discovering a star, in RL you can do that from thousands of light-years away without a spaceship at all.

I think every star in the system gets revealed and scanned after honking, the main star is revealed by proximity. That makes the long trips to distant stars without satellites unnecessary.

I don't see any problem with the star being tagged by the scanner on honk - I mean... it's right there, right in front of you, why shouldn't you get the discovery tag? Even under the old system all you had to do was target it and wait a few seconds for the scanner and you'd have got the tag.

More like discovering a point of light.

Perhaps it should have been a 'first to have got within 150 million kilometres of a star's surface'.
Or within its heliosphere?

Its absolutly shockingly terrible. Its for console kiddies that couldnt explore before.

Free credits was never going to hurt feedback either. When joe console finds they got a fat wallet ofcourse they come and gush on the forum
