Beyond is great but please let the next updates focus on combat and PvP

Yes indeed!

Lol ok, why should explorers get any payouts? Why should miners get any payouts?
You're ignorance on the topic of pvp is hilarious.

Mainly because Exploration and Mining is part of the established career modes of the game and PvP is not (and never can be).

But once again (to repeat myself from earlier) why can't the PvPers get together create a "Battle Royale" Private group, create your own reward system and the last man/ship standing takes the pot? In the racing sim world there are Racing Leagues setup for the higher skilled to get good races away from the public lobbies of wrecking idiots. Rather than complain and moan be proactive and be the "Mobius" of the PvP world?

^^ This

There is a large part of exploration that is also only possible because people set up third party sites & discord servers and allow us to get our brag-badges of where we were and what we did, etc. To get organized for expeditions together easily. Or just have someone like-minded to talk to.

I don't see why the PVP community can't... oh wait! They already do!

Outise Powerplay PVP is not a job in Elite. Exploration and Mining is. PVP is being a psychopath and serial killer in the context of the game world and those people are rarely paid anywhere.

PvP is an intrinsic part of self-defense in venues where other CMDRs may be present, so is fundamental to any activity my CMDR finds himself doing, including exploration and mining.

Because most PvP, and almost all the good PvP, happens when I'm not specifically looking for it.

Agreed but that is not really the issue.
The issue is it has no legitimate context within the game world 95% of the time. That is the issue IMHO.

Supercruise and jumping are intrinsic parts of the game as well, do we get rewarded for that? Combat gets rewards anyway why should PvP specifically get extra rewards?

Is that you targeting someone or someone targeting you? What is "good" PvP for you, both equally equipped ships duking it out in a fair fight or seal clubbing?

Either way my responses were to Birdman specific requests for "Moar focus on PvP". Much of which can and should be done by the PvP community. I'm just getting the feeling that the PvP community isn't like a group of like minded indivicuals who can setup a club but a bunch of apex predators who just want kill everything they can. Frankly that should never be encouraged.

I feel like all my brothers and sisters just got shiny new bikes and toys for Christmas and I'm still stuck playing with the same Lego set that's missing a bunch of pieces.
Beyond has been great for many people, no doubt, but combat missions still suck, PvP is mostly pointless, time to kill is way too high in fully engineered ships, and there are many weapons that are almost pointless for PvP.

At the very least, I'd love to see better rewards and payouts for combat missions. There's no reason why wing assassination missions and massacre missions need to be such low reward per effort missions considering the risk.

I don't like running cargo, I don't like mining, I don't like exploration and I don't see why I can't earn as much as everyone else doing what I enjoy most in the game and I know I'm not the only person who feels this way.
I lost many, many of my pve friends after Fdev nerfed the payouts for wing assassination missions in 3.0.

Also, why is there still no challenging pve for a full wing of players in fully engineered Corvettes? I understand that there needs to be easier missions for new players with little to no engineering but why does it have to be either/or? Why can't there be easy missions for new players and hard missions for a full wing of experienced players in fully engineered ships?

PvP on the other hand is a tough cookie and I don't even know where to begin with it.

I think it would at least be a start if Fdev made an official PvP system where rebuys we're waved crimes we're turned off. Fdev could also make it so that killing another player could reward you with credits or something. I don't know ow but something really needs to be done with PvP in this game.

I'm not even gonna mention "open only power play" because even if Fdev did this, I don't see players even using it anyways.

So please Fdev, I'm begging you, please work on combat and PvP next. Pretty, pretty please with sugar on top. Please don't just leave us out to dry.

C&P really needs revisited..it's still a broadly risk free exercise to gank traders and noobs. They still haven't managed to get the PvP balance right. I understand the ethos of 'freedom' to do what you want, but it is still a game at the end of the day. CGs are basically no-go now as the experience is just endless harrassment.

Did you know that FDev promote PvP as an activity in their marketing material, along with the other career choices?

Sure, it's not anywhere near as profitable as Mining or Exploration, but fun is kinda hard to measure and quantify, isn't it? :)

Personally, I would like to see a revamp for the combat-based careers - bounty-hunting, piracy and mercenary-ing with a little more structure, tie-ins with BGS and Squadrons, ranks, exclusive perks... and making them inclusive of both PvE and PvP combat.

It's almost as if people don't even know what game they are playing.

Of course they do.

Its Elite : Dangerous When They Want It To Be.

I see all these people saying everything changed over patches.

Non-sense!

The only things that changed were a few ships and Engineers Balance pass.

That had nothing to do with PVP, or its structure. PVP is still in the same place it has been since the beginning of the game.

That's true.
The engineering pass benefits everyone that uses it, aside from the grandfathering issue.
New ships are nice but they don't really change anything.

I can't help thinking that this must be a joke.

PLEASE no more combat toys. PLEASE lots and lots and lots of other stuff but NO MORE combat updates. Thanks.

Some additions would be great, but please additions to PvP not kind of more engineers and stupid "Straight Line of Sight" fighting. just add abandoned Mega structures for example, so even an Eagle could have advantages over larger ships, shooting from natural covers for example. This could be done for example by spawning asteroids, stations/mega ships debris or even different Arenas when someone got interdicted, and this could simply dynamically be balanced with a ships size for example.

When are people going to realise that a combat update != a PvP update. PvP requires specific features that go further than simple combat mechanics or new combat ships and threfore becomes a category of it's own.

CQC is the only PvP-focused update to date, and we all know how that ended up.

Here's a few things Fdev could do:

  • Open only Powerplay + accompanying new features
  • Add a PvP bounty hunting system - detailed suggestion here
  • A PvP duel system for CQC - detailed suggestion here
  • Make some BGS wars open only (when PvP groups are defending territory). A simple idea; if the system is controlled by a PvP squadron (has a PvP tag and the system is on their control list), the CZs during war/civil-war only appear in open play in that system.

It's not a "career" though is it? It's just part of being multiplayer. I agree that if FD flesh out the careers like you mention (I'd I've advocated Piracy be fleshed out numerous times) then that would automatically make some improvements for PvP types, but changes for PvP just on it's own? nah.

I like the BGS idea. But what about all the other phases of the BGS too? Cop killing, influence tanking, Trading are all the same thing. 3/4 of a system flip is out of the war state/phase.

It's not a "career" exactly because it pays so poorly, thus the suggestion.
All PVPers do play on their own dime, as it stands.

"Nah" isn't an argument.

It's a compromise really.. we know what the reaction is when we propose anything to be open only (forced PvP??!! ). Trying to ask for too much to be open only is probably not going to work. At least with CZ wars they're kind of the culmination of a BGS operation against a group, so it would be a roundabout way of making PvP matter in certain BGS wars where appropriate. It would also stop PvP groups being soft targets for private mode BGS tankers.
