Is something big coming?

Dear Commanders,
I'm getting nervous. For a long time earning money was hard work and took a lot of time. And now? The rewards for some missions are ridicoulusly high, with the right ship you can earn 25 Mio credits in 20 minutes without problems. Mining a single asteroid with a core can reward you with material for ~ 3 Mio credits. Even the simple scanning of star systems has a nice outcome. In addition, there exist some spots in which you can find a lot of material for use with the engineers.

This doesn't feel right. For me, it looks like there is something big, that will happen soon. We get fed with money and I believe it is meant to prepare us for something. Or am I just getting paranoid? What do you think?

Shhh...just take your money and like it.

uh oh :(

Something big indeed...

I really don't think this is it. We had new (and expensive) ships before and never got such a rain of money. And why should Frontier help us in this way anyway? It might take some time, but sooner or later you will have enough money to buy whatever you want. But if I'm right and there is something on schedule, they need us prepared on time.

25 million in 20 minutes isn't new, its normal, and even low compared to some periods. Passenger missions could earn 150m p/h last time I paid attention. There were (and still are) much faster ways than cracking asteroids to earn 3m credits before the patch, like assassination missions. Stack a few of those from an allied minor faction and earn 2.5 to 3m every few minutes. Same for skimmers and planetary scan missions. Credits p/h isn't higher, its just some other things pay well now. The material boom isn't from an increase in drop rates, they're just easier to find with more states per system and the FSS, instead of having to rely on randomly timed USS spawns, detailed knowledge of the BGS states and opening 2345435 system maps to find some types. Count all those USSs we see now, note the maybe one HGE, then remember what it was like waiting in super for all of those to come up, one by one, targeting and aiming to get the name... It's just the natural result of the changed mechanics. Don't waste your hype. :)

Edit: Maybe something big is coming, I don't know, but cash and mats aren't evidence for it, I think.

The difference is: You had to have a big ship for earning lots of money. I still remember how long it took until I finally was able to buy a Cobra or later an ASP. Scanning systems even works with a crappy Sidewinder and will allow you upgrading your vessel very quickly. But ok, maybe I'm wrong. But I will see if I can get a combat ship soon, just to be prepared :)

I think in reality FDev have just responded to people moaning about it taking too long to do/earn stuff and it being repetitive.

So now if you want to you can fast track stuff.

I think it is mostly a positive thing but fast credit earning removes any early ship progression. You just jump straight to mediums after a few hours.

Think it's a general re balance they clearly want to push thargoids for example but people will likely be unwilling due to high cost of entry / rebuy. The on-going grind is now engineers so credits are easier to come by.

I really hope they keep current payouts as now just doing what you want pays well instead of having to do rounds of things you don't enjoy to spend some time doing the things you do enjoy.

Given this was posted in the Aliens section, I believe the OP wasn't suggesting something to do with credits, but rather the introduction of something that will force us to earn them that much quicker! ;)

I was really hoping for a new Thargoid this update, or more so new tech broker stuff (I have EVERYTHING!!! even enzyme missiles, I crave the grind, it gives me purpose. and now...now I have no purpose!!!) :D

There must be something big in the Q4 update, content-wise, for it's the end of the Beyond season after all, all content updates this year were minor and the story has to go on. But probably it's not unlocked yet, they can set switches on the server. I expect something spectacular around X-mas or so (uh, next week?), when the game is more or less stable (lets see if it is after today's patch) and people have time. Money is no indicator, though.

And no more MA missions from Darnielle's progress, it seems! At least they could finally open HIP 22460.

But rest assured, out of the blue a new listening post will pop up in Maia tomorrow and lead us to...#bazmeson?
