UP and UA now called thargoid probe and thargoid sensor, so you have the artefact.
Tp : easiest from nhss5, sometimes found in other grades. Rarely found as wrecked megaship cargo.

So I drop into a nhss5 and get attacked? His has been my experience so far.

I find plenty of Thargoid Sensors just floating in NHSS 5. Scooping them usually causes an angry interceptor to warp in.

I got some in nhss threat level 5. They are quite rare.
It seems in threat level 5 nhss you rarely get attacked straight away, some times there is not a thargoid to be seen.
Once you find a probe, scoop it and jump to hyperspace ASAP.
