What were your top 3 favorite updates in the history of Elite Dangerous so far and why?

Now that we have reached the end of the Beyond season, I guess it's a good opportunity to ask the community which of all the updates in EDs time since it launched in late 2014 have been the best in your opinion - and your reasoning why you think they are the best.

I will make the start!

#1 "Planetary Landings" (Update 2.0)
For me, the possibility to land on planets has been the absolute greatest addition to the game. Driving around those huge and lonely planet surfaces in the SRV still doesn't get old for me. And I am not really bothered that there isn't that much to do on surfaces, yet. I just enjoy the driving, jumping/flying on planets with different surfaces and gravity forces and the overall feeling of being alone in a vast and unknown environment - for me, this feeling is even stronger on planet surfaces than it is in space! And it just works perfectly with EDs beautiful music!

#2 "Beyond - Chapter 4" (Update 3.3)
The additions to the core professions make the latest update a close second for me. I was expecting to mainly benefit from the new exploration mechanics, since that is one of the "trails" I enjoy most in the game (I was part of the first Distant World's expedition and "Exploration" is the only career I have reached "Elite" rank in, so far). But after playing with most of the features of 3.3 for some time now (including beta), I can firmly say that the new mining features have impressed me even more! I am really hooked for that profession now and enjoy every part of it!

#3 "CQC (Update 1.4)
Now I know this will be a controversial one, but I really enjoy CQC/Arena and think that up until Beyond - Chapter 4 it was one of the most well-realized parts of the game. The different Arenas are beautiful and much more exciting to fly through than just empty space, the fighters handle like a dream and overall this game mode just accomplishes so much better what it tries to do than many other parts of the game (piracy, trading, pre-3.3-exploration, pre-3.3-mining etc.)

So, now you know my three favorite updates to Elite Dangerous so far. I would really like to read what your guys and girls opinions are! :)

Edit: To help you guys remember the long and varied history of ED updates, here is a small list containing the version numbers, release names and a link to the corresponding patch notes (since 1.5 "Ships" was just a part of 2.0 "Planetary Landings" I excluded it and the following updates for commanders without the "Horizons" expansion as separate releases):

1. The one in beta/gamma that allowed solo and PG to be a thing; endless entertainment that has given me.

2.Horizons, for the initial landing on things experiance.

3 Beyond chpt4, for the excellant revamps of mining and exploration and general QoL polishes.

1.4 (long range missions) & 2.0 (planetary landings) were great, 3.0 (c&p) was good for me but more of a relief that my playstyle wasn't affected.

Since the catastrophe that was 2.1 my main interest in any update is that what I enjoy about the game won't be disrupted.

1- Horizons 2.0

2- Engineers 2.1

3- Beyond chapter four 3.3

I joined just before Horizons so that's why I can only go back that far 2.0

My favourite update (2.4?) was the one that brought us the T10.
I know it's a trivial thing but I'd always wanted an up-armored T9 so the arrival of the T10 fulfilled one of my little ED fantasies.

There's good stuff in most of the updates but that's the only one that I got stupidly excited about.

I joined just after 2.1 (engineers) so for me it would be:

2.2 - first NPC crew and SLF fighters. Passenger missions. Beluga which although I don't fly, is nice to see as background tourism.

3.3 - although my cmdr is not a career explorer or miner, those features and other new bits greatly add to the overall game. The FSS & Codex helps with appreciation for how big the ED world is. Lots of extra new structures and easier to find poi's in space and terrain signals. End of board flipping. New lighting helps details pop out better despite drawbacks which hopefully will be fixed. Mamba & Krait phantom are great. Orrery!

3.2 - guardian FSD booster, overall upgrade to jumprange, guardian hybrid fighters, followed shortly by Krait Mk II, now my favorite
medium ship /w fighter.

I'll be honest: I didn't expect to see the one that brought us "Powerplay" as it's headline feature :O

Also surprised no one mentions 1.1, since "Community Goals" was the one feature that virtually everyone seemed to like (probably not because of gameplay but just because they offered a way to earn a lot of credits back then)

Well, I guess there are just not enough old-timers around anymore who remember the early days...

Wings - I moaned for months about not being able to go to the same signal sources or actually see my friends properly unless I was at a nav beacon or station. Instancing was pretty buggy! I personally think the game should have launched with this feature. It's a shame Wing missions took almost 2 years to come after this but I think the basics of Wings was very well done. I clocked so many early hours in Elite with friends in our Cobra/Vipers clearing out RES sites.

Horizons - Came as a bit of surprise I thought Fdev would focus on space stations and megaships so when planets came in it gave us a glimpse of the possible future. I think none of us expected it either! The those first few hours in the SRV were great and even better in VR. VR on planets gives a great sense of immersion and the scale of planets is done so well I cannot wait for more surface stuff to arrive.

Beyond (Chapter 4) - What can I say Squadrons and scenarios are a massive step forward for Elite Dangerous. I'm not a fan of Steam stats and reviews but you can literally see the trend in the last week or so of positive feedback how important this was for Elite Dangerous. This game has been a bit weak on multiplayer stuff and this is a great start to future content possibilities It's brought my friends back and allowed our BGS/minor faction play to be much better.

Special mention - Thargoids!

Special moan - Engineers! though I think engineers has greatly improved and I've no issue with it bar the fact its a must for PvP and has unbalanced PvP making it impossible for newer commanders.

Right, Wings was a big topic when it launched (it was update 1.2, wasn't it?). I think it opened the game for a lot of people. Too bad it still doesn't work flawlessly (still getting instancing problems with friends sometimes), but it's at least much better than back then.

1.2 Wings

This was the most fun I ever had in Elite. Making friends, the war in Lugh and its community goals, the first iteration of the Fer-de-Lance, it just seemed the game was starting to get into its power band.

2.0 Planetary Landings

While I can't say I was blown away by the new gameplay coming with this version, landing on planets still constitutes a technical marvel from FDEV. This was the update that bumped my dreams about Elite to a whole new level.

2.2 The Guardians

A strong update all around: SLFs, passenger gameplay, delayed ship transfer. Coupled with the whole poll story, it may have also had the psychological effect of looking like a good rebound after the bitter taste of the RNGineers.

#1 - 2.0 - The last one that expanded the game and the universe in any meaningful way.

#2 - 2.1 - Lots of nice little things, plus extra jump range and speed.

#3 - While many updates brought several nice "small things", none had any meaningful impact that would make it stand out much over all the others. If I had to nominate one i would go with 2.2 just for adding a new profession.

Horizons for more places to race (and Rock Ratting)
Engineers for more ways to customize our ships and the spreadsheets that came with that
3.3 for the exploration and mining changes

1.2 Wings: Basic feature for an MP game.
2.1 Engineers: Basically cool, but imbalanced implementation
