Finally done it...

Uninstalled :(

Game's not what it was so it's time to play something else.

It was the scanner that done it guv. Not so much the aims of what was intended, it was the half- way it was setup. If a group of coders can sit round a table and draw up a system like the FSS and DSS and think they've delivered something good then it doesn't bode well for future updates - especially as future updates will be paid.

There is no thought for how the system works from a cockpit simulation, the two scanners are so different they feel like the separate mini-games they are, the controls and sensitivity are different and the bindings are obscure enough you have to guess what they mean. Try the scanner, fix the stuff that didn't mean what you thought, test again.

I have a PC with one keyboard, one Hotas and one mouse, how can there be so many ways for the input from them to be so different in one piece of software? That's not a challenge by the way Frontier.

I've enjoyed flying my spaceship, but after that last update it's just too clumsy to pilot anymore, it's like being forced to play in a crap hire car you can't wait to give back, someone's turned the contrast up too so everything looks over saturated.

Thargoids can have the galaxy, they'll win anyway as the human pilots won't have evolved a third arm in time to control all the features of their ship.

If I could give it away you'd be welcome to have my stuff.

Being a diehard space vagabond in the game, I'll make the best of it that I can. Given that I have the LEP, it's kind of already out of my hands in that regard, but keep in mind that many of the core mechanics and functions updates are likely to carry over to the wider game as well, regardless of future paid for expansions.

I am hoping that Frontier implements some workarounds for us first person cockpit galactic exploration pilots as well. Personally hoping for an optional module that reveals targetable black bodies after the honk.

Not holding my breath, but still have some hope.

@OP - Bye now....

You do know that the old scanning system is still there, and you don't need to use the FSS if you don't want to? So you're quitting because you don't want to do something you don't have to. But hey ho.

After spending some time with it and going mining, I've actually come round to the FSS. Once you get the keybinds set up, which isn't an issue if you have HOTAS really, it's generally faster than the original (and still there!) method for finding something specific.

Anyhow.... toodle pip!

It works differently out in the black for virgin systems, which for us galactic space vagabond types, include the vast majority of systems in the game.

Unless someone cares to muck around with parallax movement of dots in the sky that can't be targeted, the FSS gameplay is more or less essential, unfortunately.

Yet another one who didn't bother with the month+ long beta that was available to everyone, so to give them time to get used to the new controls.

Amazingly I am able to play it with only two arms... I must be some kind of freak.

Don’t let the door hit you where your maker split you.

Heck, I actually have all the FSS controls on my throttle (a thumbstick, a , and plenty of reachable buttons), so I can do it with one hand.

This. Seeing the input from many explorers over the past week, it confirms for me how many of them are truly out of touch with the mechanics of this game.

You can literally still honk and fly around scanning until you die from ennui if you want.

Or just quit. Bye.

Also, all of this nonsense about "mapping a million billion keys".

Between the FSS and DSS, you literally have to map left/right/zoom in/zoom out/fire/exit.

All of which can be shared mappings.

Doesn't matter how many times you explain this, some people just won't get it.

I've been using the ADC (now an integral part of my ships) and the DSS in the old way for the most part. It still works. Although the new system lets me map a planet if I care to and I can see the dearth of HGEs in the systems that I visit.

So no probs here. I even have a first mapped. :)

I'll take issue with that, many folk (myself included) won't touch beta in a live game as it "spoils" it for when the changes actually make the live build.
Now as for the new scanning itself -I've said it elsewhere, but I'll repeeat here for anyone who might not know - plug in a cheap joypad to do the exploring stuff - it won't interfere with existing mice, Hotas, Oculus, Edtracker etc, etc and it's what the interface was designed around. Mine sits below my spacebar on the desk and I treat it as if I were going to a different "console" (think like on a Star Trek bridge).

It isnt exactly true though. Systems unexplored by anyone require the FSS to find the planets, there is no alternative.

I think there's one alternative which is the old Basic Disco Scanner act of flying around looking for something that moves against the backdrop and head towards it until the computer sees it.
