Finally done it...

I think there's one alternative which is the old Basic Disco Scanner act of flying around looking for something that moves against the backdrop and head towards it until the computer sees it.

You're right, he's wrong [big grin]

Edit: The only thing that has changed is that explorers now have additional tools at their disposal.

It isnt exactly true though. Systems unexplored by anyone require the FSS to find the planets, there is no alternative.

Well, there aren't really any contextually reasonable alternative at any rate. Some people seem to not be reading the posts on the first page of this thread though. I guess it's to be expected, considering the OP.

Cheers. :)

It's not, I just tested it...

You just fully explored a previously virgin system out in the black using planetary parallax movement against the skybox?

OK... if that works for you. Not something many would consider a reasonable alternative to the ADS/FSS mechanics though, I can safely presume.

You just mentioned something about reading in your previous post I suggest you take your own advice...

Can we just speak clearly then. This is what the 'complainers' used to do:

1) Honk.
2) Check system map.
3) Pick any interesting planet.
4) Fly there.
5) DSS by pointing towards it.

This is no longer possible. If you think this is possible, you are confusing the changes to the ADS/FSS with the changes to shared exploration data.

You weren't clear on the specifics and taking into account some of the other posts in this thread where others seem to be unclear of the specifics, questioning the validity and/or relevance of your posts seems reasonable to me.

This is a threaded conversation, taking a single post in isolation doesn't really work...

I Did just that a few systems ago....

Okay. I am going to say it again: you are confusing the changes to the ADS/FSS with the changes to shared exploration data.

I dont mind you not understanding the basics of the new system well over a month after it has been thoroughly explained, but you may want to 'stop laughing' at people who do know. All you just did is explore a system somebody else already explored previously. I have explored hundreds of systems post launch. Sometimes you see stuff on the system map. Sometimes you dont. It depends on where you are. If you want to discover new systems, you need the FSS. And no, this is not just about the bubble. This goes for the entire galaxy. So you can go to the Pleiades and explore every single system there and on the way back without the FSS, because it is well-worn ground. Go to uenxplored systems and you need the FSS to find the planets. In explored systems you use the FSS to get the previous DSS boni.

@OP

I operate FSS without any issues without keyboard*... like rest of entire ED, because I am playing on Xbox One S. What the hell is your problem?

Besides, I find FSS way better than the old system - and I know what I am saying, because I used to be sleepy after reaching 500 ly and cursing to myself every time I tried exploration. The new system makes you actually engaged into exploration, without necessity to have a decent aid from caffeine... because nothing happened at all.

*Except for the chat, if I fly in Open.

OK, perhaps we all need to back off a bit and just give the OP some solid advice. We've pounded on him enough I think.

I'm currently 15,01.09 ly from the bubble...

Okay, this is going nowhere. Can you upload a video where you do the following.

1) Enter a system. Wait for the auto-resolve.
2) Enter system map, show there is nothing,
3) Honk.
4) Re-enter system map and show it is all there.

Thanks. Also, something is up with your decimal points. What distance do you mean? 1500 LY?

Which is why I wasn't, accounting for the full context of the discussion and the confusion some seem to have.

Regardless, most would not assume that using parallax to explore systems out in the black is a reasonable alternative to the ADS/FSS mechanics.

Also, all of this nonsense about "mapping a million billion keys".

Between the FSS and DSS, you literally have to map left/right/zoom in/zoom out/fire/exit.

All of which can be shared mappings.

Not all of us have a faxing hotas. Keyboard and mouse here, it's like playing whack a mole

Wow really.
I didn't beta test. I just remapped my hotas (back to default as that's how I use it) and the FSS controls auto mapped in.
Just had to add mode switch and FSS turn on.

The new system took me 2 minutes to learn and you scan systems in next to no time (and I'm and old codger). You get more money, more exploration rank and no random hunting for signal sources. But if you like boring one button press gameplay then maybe it's not for you. Maybe try Flappy Bird ;)
